Was out today, saw some walleyes in 16' of water, temp was 38 at
the bottom. We didnt even get a bump. We have been out 5 times
and no fish. This has to be the strangest march yet. I am surprised
how many carp there are in deep water, must have seen 15 or 20 at
24 feet.

Just curious! How do you know which are walleyes and which are carp!
strange how it changes from year to year, last march i knocked the poop out of em, going up saturday to see if i can drag a few off the bottom.

I have to agree with the fact that by this time in March the fishing is excellent. I have looked back at all of my photo's and see that the biggest Walleyes I have taken are in March starting March 2 on up. I was there one month ago and also saw alot of Carp in deep water. What bothers me is that we only saw a couple of Walleye along with Beer cans, rods, reels and lures out the ying yang. But my fish finder which I have much doubt in was showing plenty of markings even up top so we tried using it up a little higher and saw nothing. The Walleye we saw were like buried in the sand and along with that not a lot of structure but a lot of pits kinda like Blue Gill nests. I think this is gonna be one of those years where it does not kick in until early April and lasts a little longer into the season. Putting pontoon in April 15th. I think the wacky fishing is from the lake never freezing solid but thawing, freezing, thawing and freezing several times. The fish seem to be confused. Will report next time up. Spunkeye
I actually think it doesnt matter if the lake never froze or not...bc if gthe water temp is around 29-34 i think the fish still go through the same sequence of events if the ice freezes or not. You have to remember the Fall was sort of slow this year. I think with the lakes water level being so high the fish will start to get in the swing soon. Maybe the lake is just needing time to warm up. Last year we did the best on the north end the end of april into may.
