Under Governor Taft's proposed budget bill the Ohio Division of Wildlife will lose reimbursment
for the free licenses issued to disabled veterans and seniors. Without the reimbursment for the
free licenses the Ohio Division of Wildlife will also lose $1.2 million per year in federal funding.
Another attempt is being made to force the Ohio Division of Wildlife to pay the State for central
support services. Hunting and Fishing license fee increases are being considered. Elimination of
the free licenses are also being considered.
Someone needs to remind Governor Taft that as tax payers the sportsmen of Ohio are already
paying for Central Support Services. Someone also needs to remind the Governor that the
sportsmen of Ohio helped to elect him to office. Someone also needs to remind Director Sam
Speck and Chief Budzic that while Ohio hunting and fishing licenses have trippled in cost over the
past twenty-five years that there have been no increases in commercial fishing license or royalty
fees during the same time period. Enough is enough.
When do we draw the line folks? I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if Ohio had a tighter grip on the commercial fisherman. They are the reason tough and strict penalties are being placed on the fisherman. MR GOVERNOR. Open your eyes!
