I'm heading to Port clinton area wed. morning fishing for 5 days need a little help. We plan on launching at Turtle Creek wed. morning and fish the reefs. We will be coming in on the toll road from Michigan and I was wondering where I need to exit to get to Turtle Creek from there? I also need a bait shop in the area for some minnows and a non-resident fishing licenses. Any ideas on where I should start fishing wed. morning would also be appreciated.

THANK YOU MUCH
TIM

If you take the toll road east from 75 (from michigan???). Get off the toll road at the exit for sr 53. It should say Port Clinton and Lake Erie Islands. Go North about 15 miles untill you come to RT. 2. Then go east about 10 miles and you will be there! Good Luck and keep us posted on your results.

These instructions will get him to Port Clinton. If he is trying to get to Turtle Creek, it is west of SR53 and is a couple miles west of the Davis-Besse power plant.

If he's coming from I-75 he shouldn't go to the turnpike. Instead take I-75 to I-280 south. Get off at the Rt 2 exit (Oregon) and head west (toward Cedar Point).

There is a marina with a bait shop right at Turtle Creek on Rt 2. Talk to the older guy there and he will tell you where people have been catching fish. The people who work for him don't usually pay attention to where the fish are biting. He also usually has a marine radio on in the bait shop so sometimes you can hear for yourself.

I haven't gotten my boat going yet so I don't have any first hand info. Usually this time of year you can do well with jigs on the reefs or trolling the deeper water just off the reefs.

Frank is right, but Turtle Creek Marina is not on Route 2, it is on Humphrey Road, about 20 miles from where you will get off of Route 280. About 3 miles west of Davis Besse (you will see the cooling tower for a long, long time before you get there ;-) you will see a sign on the left for Inland Marina - Inland usually has minnows and other supplies. Once you leave Inland, Humphrey Road will be the next crossroad. Turn left, go about 1/2 mile and Turtle Creek marina will be on the left. They should have fishing licenses there. If Inland doesn't have minnows go further east on Route 2 and check A & J Baits, they had shinners Sat.

"Ideas on where to fish?"

I trolled N of reefs all day Sun. 2 fish 1@9# and 1@4# the 9 was @ 13ft deep the 4 was @ 2 ft over 30 ft of water. Talked to the guys who won the tourn Sun and they killed them at the RR bridge in Sandusky Bay. Kinda a long run from you but the fish are biting. NOT being snagged but all hooked in the mouth on VibE's. They had 49+# and lost 2 that would have upgraded bag considerably. I knew about the bite Sun. morn but assumed they were snagging fish so we went trolling instead.OOPS. There is a ton of quality marks at n41.41.000 and w???.01.500 on gps, fished them for 3 hours to get a couple. Hope this puts you near some fish. Once the water clears a little and warms a little watch out! Temp was 40*, the 9 was a spawned out female and was still dripping egg juice, the 4 we couldn't tell male or female. Good Luck.

Hello, it is Monday and it is raining here at Lake Erie. It’s just drizzling a little once in a while and it is dead calm. It is a fishing day today and it was not suppose to be. We were suppose to have 15 to 25mph winds. Most guys are in now with their limit of walleyes. We have our suites full of fishermen this week and they are all in with theirs. Marty Bramer and his buddy, Rich Siemons from Greene, Iowa were out about 3 hours for their limit, and Marty caught a 10 lb. Walleye. They fished alongside Tracy Golgin, Mike Anderson, and Phil Fronczke from Illinois who are also staying here. Tracy’s bunch have been here four days now and they have had their limit each day. The first day Phil caught a 14 lb. 29" walleye. They caught 12 fish all males, except the one Phil caught, all on gold Vib"E" Lures. The second day, Tracy had the big one. His was a 13 ¼ lb. 31 ½" walleye. The third day they had a 12 ½ lb. And today they just had all 3 and 4 lb. Fish. Mike said he hasn’t had the big one yet, but he catches the most. Some of the other Fish Ohio (over 28") Walleyes we have had in the last two days are; Chris Chambers of Catawaba Island, a local girl who works at the Catawaba Galley Restaurant, had a 31 ¼" walleye that weighed 12 ½ lb. We also weighed in a 15 ¼ lb. 32 ½" walleye that Rob Paksi from Carson City, Michigan caught. He said he was trolling with Deep Reef Runners up north of Kelleys Island in 45 ft. of water. He said him and Kim Hagerman caught 3 walleyes, that was Saturday. The perch fishermen say they are catching nice size perch right off Marblehead, and east of Kelleys Island. We had quite a few bass fishermen in this weekend. I didn’t hear back from any to see how they did. The weather for tomorrow is suppose to be somewhat windy and rainy. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday is suppose to be cloudy but no rain, southwest winds 5 to 15 mph. I hope it does rain tonight and tomorrow because that will help warm this water up. It is still 36 to 38 degrees in the lake, and 44 to 48 in Sandusky Bay. Good fishing, & good luck. Don. (Maybe you guys should be fishing over this way until the "reefs" light up. Compliments of hiwaybait.com)

Bob where were you fishing at when you lost all of these lures? OUCH!! Sounds like this lure is really catching in that area I will have to pick some of them up when I'm there this week. Is there any certain color or size that seems to be doing best? It sounds like the fishing is getting better every day hopefully when we get there wed. the weather will be cooperate so we can get out after some of them pigs..

You're right Brion. I should have said east(toward Cedar Point).

Also, the Marina I was talking about on Rt 2 is Inland Marina.

Judging by the color/size that sells the best, the Gold 1/2 Vib-"E" is definitely the ticket on Erie this Spring. The "Lime Flash" is also doing well and there are reports of good numbers of 'Eyes coming on it. Two new colors this year that were aimed directly at the Erie 'Eyes are the Gold/Green back, Gold/ Chartreuse, and Gold/ Orange back. These bladebaits are now available in 18 colors and 6 sizes. I carry the biggest selection of any retailer but I'm too far from Erie to do any of you guys any good. Quite a few shops up there are carrying them now. If they aren't, ask them to stock them. They are a great bladebait; a quality lure for the angler and a great selling item for the retailer.
