View Full Version : Maumee River, Too late?
I'm going to be in the Toledo area later this week. Can anyone tell if I'm too late to catch some walleye?
I also heard that the white bass fishing is a lot of fun, but they aren't real great to eat.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I went down Sunday (4-21) and fished from noon until 7pm. Saw very few fish caught. What really had me stumped is that no one was even snagging any. If the fish are there in any numbers at all, you would at least expect to see some snagged. I don't know if things are done or not. The water was very warm which may have something to do with the numbers being down too. Very disappointing day. I wanted to get out on Erie but the forecast wasn't good, so I settled for the river.
Can't help you with the white bass question.

It's been some time since I've fished the Maumee but I do know that in the past, the run usually winds down by the middle of April but a few fish are still present until the 1st of May. Much has to do with the water temp and weather conditions but after charting it from 1993-98, it was very consistant. I knew when the run was coming to an end because I'd start catching white bass in the middle to end of April.

Paulisan 1 The big trick to white bass is to get them on ice immediatly ( like as soon as caught)and when cleaned eliminate any of the red meat. It containes the fat, pollution and fishy taste. Enjoy them whitties!!!
