fished pymy on fri and sat and did ok 5 keepers on fri and 9 keepers on sat. Decided to close camp early and stop off at lake arthur on the way home since the opener was this weekend. I ended up with a erie like day. between the two of us we caught 26 eyes. we were throwing back 19" ers cause our smallest was 22 1/2. Our biggest was a 7.24#, a couple of 6's and the rest all between 3 to 5 lbs. I couldn't believe the day we had. It seemed like no matter what we did it worked. I caught some with a jig and minnie and when that slowed I went to pulling cranks. The biggest fish came on a silver and black hot-n-tot. The hotest action came in the area off of neely's point by the old railroad bed. I'm gonna get up there after work all this week if I can.

[Big grin] Great, now my favorite 'eye lake is going to have even more traffic than it did last weekend during the rowing regatta. Only kidding - the more the merrier I say! I've only recently been fishing this lake for 'eyes, and although they aren't as easily located as on Pymy they certainly carry their own weight.

The guys I talked with at the launch said they were getting them mostly on crank-baits [flashy hot-n-tots], but lindy rigs with leeches were producing as well.

Good luck to all that venture out on Arthur, and please save some of the big ones for me! [smile]

Lake Arthur is in Western PA about 30 minutes north of Pittsburgh, PA. Just off interstate 79, take the exit for route 422. it is about 3000 acres give or take, and it has a 10 HP limit.... although I think the Fish commission is/has going to change it to 18 HP limit.

what else can you tell me about this lake? is it deep? is it a basic basin-type lake? i have been by it many times but never did fish it. although i fish pymy, i have always heard that arthur and wilhelm were decent lakes, also. thanks for sharing the report. i still say walleye fisherman are a decent bunch.

It is a pretty deep lake in some spots by the dam. where I fish it can get up to 30ft deep. It also has alot of little holes or pockets on the bottom and structure that hold the eyes. It has alot of bays or fingers that are shallow that are great for panfish and bass but I've caught an ocasional walleye off the weed beds in these bays. My camp is up pymy so I do 85% of my walleye fishing up there but when I can't make it up on a weekend or get bored after work I make the quick run up there.

Lake Arthur is a hill-land type res.,it's got some good fishin'for Walleye.Try the old 422 roadbed,as it goes from the dam area,to the bay's on the northern shore. The railroad grade is another structure to locate and fish hard.Look for the swim area,it's cove has some great point's to fish, especially near dark. Those fish also hang near the dam,so troll the point's in that area.Let's keep in touch, and check in on the Lake Arthur report's.
