Well the ice is almost out! The lake should be completely out by Wednesday May 8th, We have been doing some trout fishing and have had some luck. First one of the year was about 9 pounds so we started off to a nice start. This has got to be my favorite time to be fishing for Lake Trout. Pipestone is known for it’s Trout fishing and over the last couple of days the fishing has been improving as the Trout are starting to run the shorelines. I can hardly wait until the Muskie, Walleye and Bass start to turn on, it’s getting closer every day!

Is the lodge open for business now? I was thinking of doing a 3 day trip with 3 other guys. Would you be able to get us in on a weekend?

With the demand for the ice out Trout fishing we are open! We even have a few specials on for this occasion. You can check out our web site at www.happylandingfishing.com or give us a call up at the lodge at 1-807-226-1237. We have some room left due to the late ice out this year so hurry!

I was wondering how your portage lake were doing in producing fish?

Andre,

Are portage lakes haven't really been used yet this year because Lake Trout is what our guests have been fishing for and Pipestone Lake, (the lake the lodge is on) is well known for it's Lake Trout. This year the iceout fishing was the best we have ever seen! This weekend a few of our portage lakes will be used for walleye fishing. We have three portage lakes that our great for opening walleyes! These lakes are great because they warm up quiker than Pipestone and are shallower. Good luck fishing!!

Well it's not much surprise that the walleye have been slow with the low water temperature. I has been many years since we could still catch trout up shallow this late in the year, so many guests are enjoying a different type of fishing that many have never tried before. From casting the shore line we have had quite a few muskies follows up to the boat, the Northerns have been faily easy to catch especially in Bartley Lake. I just wish the water would warm up!

Well the walleyes are sure starting to bite! In the last week we have been able to catch shorelunch with in 10 min at the first spot of the day. We have had mostly bass fisherman and women (Small and Large Mouth) camp and lost of bass to go around. The lakes that have been producing to bass are Yoke, Pipestone, Bartly, Bungie and Sraw lakes so people haven’t been running into each other will they are fishing to same species. The muskies are starting to move around with at least two follows a day from the bass fisherman. Lake trout have slowed down as they make their transition to deeper waters.

P.S. Try not to drop the fish!
