Hello, I thought I would pass on our past weekend fish report. We started fishing about 9:00 PM Friday night at the dam. We were checked for licenses and park permit before we even unloaded the boat. Nice guy, told us about the south to north trolling procedure.(but apparently had not told everyone) We waited to get into the trolling conga line, had a shallow diving Rapala on the riprap side and a couple of hot n tots on the deep side. My nephew caught a nice 4 lb male within 50 yds. (milting all over the floor) From that point on all we did was lose 2-5 lures per pass. Fished til midnight. Saturday we fished all day at the west end of the lake, Otter Creek to North Shore. Jigged, rigged and pulled plugs,5-30 foot deep, nothing but a catfish and a very small striper. Went back to the dam and fished for about 2 hours at night. Nothing. Counted 30 boats trolling at one point. Looked like a Christmas parade, red green and white lights.

Had a similar report from a friend who fished from 7:00 a.m. Sunday until about 4:00 p.m. and caught zilch. Water temp. about 52 degrees, so maybe a little cool yet?

Patience is a virtue!! She's about ready to bust loose here in a week or so, so get your hooks sharpened!
wally doc you must have been to the West to find that 52 degrees, Martin bay and the South points were 45-47.
The fishings tough right now, erratic weather and wind, unfortunatly little rain. Very cold today and of course windy again with a little rain and possible snow mix tonight. Sure thought it was Spring!

The Crusher
We were there and fished all day Saturday and til noon on Sunday. There were two boats in our group with three people in each boat. My buddy caught one fish at about 3:00 Sat. Thats it, one fish. However, it was a quality fish, 30" and 10.4 lbs. Those are the kind that will find me back there very soon.
Good fishing !

Fishngyd, I sure hope you're right about the lake being a week away. I'll be out there next tuesday thru Sunday, and I'd hate to spend 5 days out there for nothing!

It is going to depend a bit on weather, today we have a 35mph wind from the West to NW, and cold, so it is a very ugly day here. Looks like for the next 3-4 days is going to be ugly also, with lows in the low 30's, highs in the 50's with rain, snow and wind :-(. I sure am counting on the week or so timetable, but like I said earlier, I sure thought it was Spring!! Good luck on your trip.

So where do you guys think the fish are when the bite is bad? they still have to be somewhere right? If they are coming into shallower water at night on the dam, don't they have to be in the deeper water in the daytime either on the bottom or suspended? Has anyone tried slabbing this time of year? Where are the baitfish? These are questions I ask myself and thought I would ask you guys.

I am considering taking the family to Bic Mac the first week in June. I was wondering if any of you could recommend a good place to stay. Prefer something with a kichenette. We need to save money as much as possible. Thank you.

Hey Brian, it looks like it is gonna be a long spawning season. The water temp has been dropping and some will have to postpone their spawn. Fortunately the walleye is one of the few fish that can "ingest", I think is the word, and quickly develope a new batch. That is one of the reasons they are "survivors". Many have already spawned or are spawning and will be ready for a feeding binge. Look for them in the warmest shallow areas. Of course there have to be baitfish there too. If I had been fishing the Pueblo Tourney I would have tried Marina Bay where we got several 6lb beauties a couple weeks ago. Will look 4U out there. I'll be in a burgundy & white Crestliner.
