Looking at Walleye XML spinning combo from cabelas @ $129.88. Is this a decent combo for the money? If so which rod should I go with the 6'm/l or the 61/2'm. I am doing about equal amounts of jigging and rigging. Thanks

Terry, you might want to check the archives. I had almost an identical question out there last week and got several responses. Do an author search on "iatag" (wihout the quotes) in the General Discussion section. You might find some interesting reading there. I experimented before posting this response and could only find it by searching the entire archives. When I tried to limit it to the last 2 weeks, I couldn't get any hits. Does anybody out there know why this works like this?
I just ordered the Cabelas Fish Eagle XML / Shimano Symetre combo @ $134.99 in the 2001 tackle box edition. I had one bad experience with a Cabelas reel (a line counter) and it will be hard for me to purchase another. I didn't see the combo you are looking at in that catalog, so I'm not sure which reel it comes with.
In the same order, my friend purchased the 6'6" medium Walleye XML. When the rods arrived I checked them out as best I could out of the water. To me the feel of the two rods was almost identical (although the Fish Eagle retails for about $30 more.)
The consensus from my earlier post seemed to lean toward the medium power rod. I specifically stated that I often use 3/4 oz bottom bouncers, and that might have tilted the answers toward the heavier rod. I think if you will be using 1/2 oz or lighter jigs & rigs, you could probably get by with the ML rod.
One last comment. I compared the feel of these rods to some GLoomis rods in a sporting goods store here. The Cabelas rods are not nearly as stiff as the GLoomis rods. I think the Medium power Cabelas XML feels more like the ML GLoomis.
I'm far from an expert in this area, so I hope you get some more feedback. If not, check out the archives.
