I'm going to be ordering some treble hooks to be tied with my spinner harness' and I'm wondering what size and style the rest of you use.
I'm be using them with mid to small blades and crawlers.

Thanks

I like to use the VMC Reverse barb cone-cut trebles #4. You can
get them from Reef Runner Lure Co. (reefrunner.com) Good Fisning.

I like the VMC reverse barbs too - very sticky. I also really like the Owner 'Stinger' series. Very sharp and extremely light. Perhaps not the best for snaggy situations as they are a little brittle. It's scary how sharp they are. Great for stingers behind jigs too - as the name implies.

Do you guys find the reverse barb hooks to give you better hookups? I use premium trebles such as the Triple Grip and have started to switch over the reverse barbs on my ReefRunners to other hooks. I have not found the reverse barbs to hook any better, but they do stick in the net pretty bad. Thanx for your input!

I use mustad triple grips #4, you can buy them in bulk quantities and they hold fish better than other hooks I`ve tried.

For a smaller fish, say 1-4 lbs. I use a VMC Reverse Barb Cone Cut trebble. I determine size of the hook to the size of baitfish, and how the fish are striking the harness. If the fish is striking it from the side, I use a longer gap between hooks, and a smaller trebble for instance.

For larger fish, say 5-12 lbs. I use a Gamakatzu EWG (Extra Wide Gap) trebble. I determine the size the same way I determine hook size for smaller fish.

The reverse barb and EWG hooks allow a razor sharp point, that sinks into a fishes mouth very well. The reverse barb offers from my experience a much better hook set on light biting fish, or the smaller fish who have less mouth space to take in the spinner, etc. It's fairly simple in concept. The barb is on the exterior of the hook, and the fishes mouth, which you are hooking, is on the inside of it's head. Thus the barb actually makes contact with the flesh you are hoping to connect with rather then a smooth outer edge of a normal barbed hook. The Gamakatzu EWG allows a very nice gap, and hook curve that alows for sinking hooks sets into a larger fishes thicker mouth. It's wider gap grabs more flesh and thus hooks deeper into a bigger fish. And we all know the deeper the hook is set in, the better the fish will stay on.

I hope I was some help, good luck, and good fishing.

Hey Lund Dude, I have been doing just the opposite. I'm switching all my other hooks to VMC reverse barbed hooks. I can't believe how sharp those hooks are. I'm always pulling them out of my fingers. They have to be the sharpest, stickiest things available. I was not impressed with the triple grips. I know I'm in the minority there but I liked the Excaliber's better than triple grips. VMC gets my vote now--- I don't have to sharpen them everytime I replace a hook. They're sharp already! Sticky Sharp. Just another opinion.
