I'd like some advice on choosing between the Magellan 315 and the Garmin 12. Both seem comparably equiped and are the same price. They are in my price range at $150 and I really don't see much reason to go to a more expensive unit with lots of maps and dataport and all that as I intend to use it to find myself on Lake Erie, mark my favorite bluegill beds on local lakes, etc.
So.... who's got some experience with either and what do you think?
Thanks in advance,
Bordy from Indiana
Bordy,
I can tell you this, I have a Magellan 330, I know, I know - out of your price range ($250) but - gotta tell you - got it at Xmas - dropped it on the garage floor in January - Magellan replaced it no problem within days. I was satisfied to say the least. I dig the maps, streets cdrom - can't wait for the marine version soon to be out I hear. Lots of fun! Did you know a 727 flies at 530 mph? Had a great time w/GPS flying out to Oaklahoma - most interesting - circled the airport twice before the pilot came on prepare to land. Just cool stuff.

Hoss,
Thanks for the input. It's good to know that Magellan is responsive to customers.
I probaly should be considering the more expensive versions, because, just like you, I'll probably have lots of fun once I start using it. But, there's lots of other things I want and I'm trying to be practical. I think I can get by with the 315.

I have the Garmin 12 and have used it on all the lakes I have been to and in the woods of Northern Maine. Never had a problem with the unit. I set the gps spots I want to go to from my home in Jersey and when I get on Lake Ontario it takes me right to them. In the woods it has the same capabilities as out on the water. If I were to get another one I would think about the Lowrance 100 to go with the mapping. Hope this helps. JJ
