Fished off Ruggles yesterday with only a few large sheephead to show for it. Only heard about a few people taking walleye. Are they in the area? Has anyone got some starting numbers or depths. I prefer drifting (love the feel of the fish hitting the lure) but will troll when necessary.
This board has real quiet lately for the Vermilion area.
Tight lines,

Walleye fishing has been quiet in the area also.A few fish have been taken from 32-37 ft.,but for the most part---SLOW--- has been the rule! The nite bite has been good at times and last nite a few "midgies"hatched so maybe the daytime deal will fire up shortly. Good Fishing, Mike(skipnskul ch79

Bagman,
We drifted and trolled on monday from Vermilion to Ruggles...no walleye. We were in depths from 9 ft to 34. We marked a ton of fish in the 29-31 ft range out by the Castle. We caught gobies, smallmouth, yellow and white perch, and sheaphead but no walleye. I knew it would be early but had to try anyway. Had fun with the smallies and sheepies though. Probably a couple weeks away.

Fished vermilion sat & sun. My wife landed to nice fish trolling reef runners in 45ft of water. The first fish was 9lb,30inches and second fish was 8lb 28 inches within a hour apart on sat. Sunday was a wash out no takers. We were thinking the storms sat night played a part in fishing this weekend.Good Luck and safe fishing.

Personally, the Ruggles area at this time of the year drives me nuts but there are definatley walleye their. The white perch in this area are horrible. I would not recommend crawler fishing to anyone in this area when fishing in 34 ft of water or shallower. I fish anywhere from Cleveland to the castle and the Ruggles area is the white perch capital of Erie! But anyways, if you do decide to fish this area I would recommend trolling lil rippers on boards when trolling in 26 ft or less and stingers on dipseys in anything deeper, but 1st change your hooks to larger trebles and bend them out a bit with a pair of needle nose. This will eliminate many of the smaller junk fish and won't hurt your walleye hook ups unless they are really small fish. It's a pain to constantly real in small junk fish and in the process you can't keep your lure in the water!

Monday, someone on the radio said he was running out to the sandbar for Eyes. Is that a better area now than over at Ruggles?
