That's big,May,30th,a female? Great job to let her do her thing, and spawn more trophy genes into the water's. My hat's off to you.Can you elaborate on method, and time,etc...?My guess is a bait used to entice her. Do tell.

06-12-2002, 11:28 AM
She was taken on a rig and leach about 9:00pm, 6lb test
Caught in the Lower Lake. She would have been & will be a record if caught pre-spawn. Only fish caught that night, but no one is complaining. Good luck, and keep an eye out for the upcoming photos.

Wow! I can't wait for the pic's
Congrats!! I'm jealous
Fish there alot from my 37 foot SeaRay 8)
Don't worry about taking out a spawner. That lake is pretty much put and take. (limited to no natural spawning) You could have whacked her.
Unless you think you can catch her again when/if she's bigger.
Congrats again on a great fish of 1,000 lifetimes.

hey Russ T, let me guess; your camera fell into the hands of the enemy and they had the film sent to russian spies for permanent storage in Siberia. is that why the film has not been developed yet. do you have a wal mart near you? the wal mart near me does a great job developing film in less than (1) one hour.

Russ I believe you and will look forward to seeing the picture. Friend of mine that fishes tonka on a regular basis says that there are some real nice fish out there. His cousin has done some scuba diving on the lake and has seen some true hogs down there. Yeah I know that sounds like a "I know a guy whose cousins brother in law's 2nd cousin's son knows a guy that...." If you continue to get bashed on it. Just Email me and the other positive replies the picture, let us enjoy it and leave the nay-sayers out of the loop. Congratulations, personally I couldn't of put that one back, it would have been at the taxidermist's with a priority one sticker on it.
Regards,
Scott Lee
I agree Scott, and I can't believe it took 2 days for some jerk to try and spoil the party. Give Russ a break, maybe he works for a living, maybe it was on the beginning of a new roll of film, geez Rustystory and Bill what is it hurting you anyway if the pictures don't appear. Or does it make you feel better to run people down that say that they caught a bigger fish than you? As has been said on this board lately people sure are nasty this summer. As my mother always said "if you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything at all"
LOL, well my mother would want me to withdraw my personal attacks on Rustystory and Bill since it wasn't "anything good to say" LOL, so lets just say a big congrats to Russ and hope that when he gets his pictures back that he will still share them.

Opinions are like ...... I can attest that fish is legitimate. And there were photos taken. Naysayers may want to check the papers for pictures. "Russ" may have been present, but he was not the lucky angler. Stay tuned, and keep fishing.

To all of you that nay say. Have you ever caught a fish of a lifetime, then let her go, take pictures or not does noes not matter. You will remember it in every detail in your memory. whether this person actually caught the fish or not does not matter to you, he will know in his heart the truth.
I personally caught a 15+ this year on Erie. do I have pictures. NO. Do I have memories YES. I, also, have four other witnesses on teh charter boat thsat will speak up about the day we had. My picture happened to be the only one that did not develop. (Becuase a shirt sleeve got in the way.) Does this mean I did not catch it becasue of no pic's. Everyone of you should get a life and quit bashing. If this person did catch the fish, GREAT JOB AND GREAT MEMORIES. If did not catch one, then he only know wh he is fooling.
Like I said memories do a lot and pictures do help only for those of you none believers.
GO CATch ONE of your won.
If you have any problems with my comments. Then e-mail me. rfredbloom@msn.com. I am not afraid to post my name with my comments and if you want proof of a 15 pounder then I will give you names , numbers, date, approxiamte location on eire, type of jig used, how many other 10 ound plus fish we caught on the same drift, what time of day it was, and whatever else you need just to SHUT YOU UP.

How could you not notice your shirt sleeve in the way when you were looking through the view finder?

Wannago,
Congradulations on your fish. I guess the difference between your example and this one is the fact that you didn't put it on a post and then expect people to just take your word for it. Do you know anything about the lake this fish was said to be caught from? I suppose if you did, then you would be singing a different tune.

Who said anything about a short sleeve shirt. April 01 does provide for many short sleeve shirt days. Pocket instamatics and charter captains make the best of partners. Slight breeze with a flannel shirt unbuttoned at the sleeve, things can happen. The remainder of the pictures turned out. DO you want names to call, since you always seem to be a none believer.

Eyecrosserr,
You are right, I can not say I know anything about this lake. I do know from accounts at various other lakes in Northern Michigan of people not catching any monstor walleyes but divers have seen monstors on the bottom. I have been to Lake Michigamme and Negannee (spelling) in the UP and caught 5 & 6 pounders but nothing bigger. A friend has gone diving in those cold lakes and said there are true 10 + in those lakes but never seem to get caught.
I can not say if this happened or not but what really gets me aggrevated is that someone makes a post about having a good day or catching the big one and somebody, whoever it is, must bash the posting. I have never gone to this post and commented other than to say if something occurred such as a good day or bad day, but I have had enough of the negative comments people always want to reply. This is not directed at you but it is frustrating when this is such a good sight for many people to utilize then we get a hundred comments that takes up space on this network. If people look at those that really fish and understand what may or may not occur ou will not see them posting negative or "bashing" comments.
Enough said, I do know things cna happen but as indicated previously if it did not then only that person can live with the truth in their heart.
Thanks for listening (reading).

I never said anything about a "short sleeve t-shirt...you did. I just asked how you could not see your "shirt sleeve" through the view finder. In your original post you stated that a shirt sleeve got in the way and ruined your picture. Did you not say that? I could be dislexic, but I'm not...re-read your post and mine and you will see the light.

06-17-2002, 08:27 PM
Yes I did say a shirt sleeve got in the way of the picture. You can se half of Mouse Island in the background, part of my body, then the remains of an unbuttoned shirt from the charter captain. I do not know but it is possible for a shirt to flap in front of the camera simultaneously. Since these are disposable instamatics, you can not look at it like a digital. Captains name, Jerry Abel, Boat - Headhunter, people on board, Ken Dillie, Brad Kissinger, Jim Jones, Max Dillie. Date April 1, Lake Erie, location two miles west of Mouse Island, bouncy in the morning then calmed down, caught limit by 1pm that afternoon, then trophy foished. Captian moved to a spot and on five cast for five people each peson hooked a fish that each fish went over eight pounds, mine largest, released all five fish due to limit. Have pictures, non-digital, of limit of fish. 20 fish. Captian does not like to talk on radio but if you are ever at Highway Bait at Port Clinton ask if they know of Jerry Abel and the results he gets.
I have said more in these posts than I have for three years f watching this. I am done with my soap box and this site. Will promote Clift site because of no bashing. He provides only info, no two way comunication.

Chill man....I'm not bashing you, I just asked a question thats all. I never doubted your story of names and facts etc. Just didn't understand the picture thing. If that was considered bashing and you are going to run away then thats a shame because it wasn't meant that way.

Lake Erie has 15 pounders but not many 35 inchers....Thats so very
close to "not gonna happen".....
How long was your 15 pounder?.....by the way great fish.

Wannago,
I can totally understand and agree with your reply. It's just that there has been so many B.S. posts on this site lately that it's getting a little frustrating. I guess the author of this post is just sitting back getting a kick out of us fighting about something that no one can prove. Looks like we are the fools. Good luck on the lake.

Well, I think it is now pretty safe to assume this is just another case of a guest user trying to pull everyone's chain. I hope I'm wrong. I hope Russ posts a link to a picture and I hope I can read about it in the Star Tribune. But I'd be REALLY surprised to see anything else on this.

We always take more than one picture of a subject because sometimes
they do not turn out or the person blinks or maybe a (shirtsleeve)
gets in the way
Film is cheap so take an extra shot or two
I'll be waiting for your new pics that you'll have because of my advise
Have a great season and hope you go thru many rolls of film

Are you sure that is not a Northern Pike? I've got a 14lb 11oz on the wall that is 31 1/2 inches long. That must be one skinny fish! The world record 25 pounder is 37 inches, are you telling me that an inch & 1/2 is a 9lb difference. COME ON PAL give me a break!
PS witnesses can be bought. By the way, are they in the witness protection program, because we haven't heard from them.

Were these fish caught on leadcore?

06-19-2002, 05:05 AM
According to the captain. It was 32.75 inches on his board. As he neeted it, laid it onthe transom, then attempted a picture for me I did not actually handle it very much other than release it. As we had our limit already I was concerned about bringing in an extra fish. The captian turned to me and said if I wanted to keep this one for the wall he didn't think it would do any harm to take but I had already released it.
Thanks for asking. I will always remember that day and fish.

Thanks, I have a digital now (that I keep in plastic bag in case of water). After that disappoint I will never be without the camera and numerous pics. I was at the film store the next day and waited for all of the pics to be developed. You can not imagine the disappointment as I went through all of the other pictures and then came upon mine and saw half a picture and only tail plus an island.
Do remember everyone's coments about it though.

06-19-2002, 05:13 AM
No, strictly on jigs with a few fish caught on pimples. This captain "hates" trolling and strictly casts. Spring (like this one) he is a jig fisher staying pretty much to open water areas, no reefs unless not getting anything. Summer moves to the rocks and works primarly the rocks (especially Canadian side).
Most of fish were caught on 1/4 oz jigs with chartruese tails plus minnow. My large one was cuaght with a 1/8 oz jog with a split tail and no minnow. Lake had realy calmed down and these largest fish of day were shallow in the water column, we were fishing 28' and my count was no more than ten.

Wannago,
I understand your dissapointment completely. Ten years ago, a friend and I packed up and headed to Alaska to work on a commercial fishing boat. Horrible hours and work, but I met a lot of neat people. I had about 10 of those disposable cameras filled with photos of people and places I will probably never see again. Only about a roll and a half came out!! Big time bummer.

The weight difference vs length is plausable. Look at the difference in weight from your fish to the world record. I have seen 10 pounders that were one inch longer than 7 pounders, but from different bodies of water. It is possible. And why do you have such a beef with this fish, bad enough to post your mindless drivel on at least two boards here. You sir, have waaaaay to much time on your hands.
NON_BELIEVER!!!!
06-19-2002, 11:25 PM
Give me a break pal! That has to be the skinnest walleye that I've ever heard of. Inch and a half isn't a nine pound difference. As far as a beef, I just get tierd of BS'ers. But, hey, it is a good try at a fish story.
the longest fish i have ever seen with my own eyes was 34 1/2 and only went 9.5---

Hmmm. There is a thread on the other forum about "Your biggest Walleye" with a lot of posts. Most have no proof. It seems that the direction of this thread is that if you make a claim about catching a large Walleye you must post proof. Are you guys calling everyone that posted on the other thread without posting a picture a liar?
I guess from now on anyone who post's a message that says they had problems with boat "X" or motor "B" or that product "A" worked well for them or that "We really caught the fish at Lake Z" will be labeled a liar. Unless of course they post pictures and documents signed by an unbiased third party. Everyone should be held to your high standards, right? But then of course you can claim the pictures were faked (easy to do with digital cameras)and the third party's were friends or were bought off.
Thanks guys! I guess you have convinced me most of the posts on the board can't be trusted. You have shatered all my illusions. I'm putting my boat up for sale, and quitting fishing. All those fish I thought I caught over the years were just lies, I guess without proof they were just a fantasy.
Sniff, sniff it shure was fun to dream! No more no more....

Too NON_BELIEVER from up above. Maybe i should call ur ##### a big liar. You caught a 14 lber that was 31" long? I caught a 31" that weighed 9 3/4 lbs. I have just as much right calling you a liar as you do to the guy who posted this. But i wont. Just goes to show...our fish were the same length but had 4 1/2 pounds of weight difference.

Hey eyecrosser, it's good to hear there are others on this board with Alaska fishing experience. I used to work on a purse seine boat out of Sandpoint (Shumagin Islands) back when I was young and strong of back. Where did you work? Man I can tell wild stories about it! We should compare notes sometime.

Fish_On,
The first boat I was on was a small crab boat out of Dutch Harbor (it sank off Nome about two months after I got off!!). They closed the season down early that year, so the company transfered my friend and I to a factory trawler(Highland Light). Quite the operation. I only spent 6 months there, but my friend is still up there as we type! He made it all the way to Chief Engineer. The big slob never had to work the "slime line" at all!!

And i'd bet after reading the beating he's taken on here...he probably thought why in the ##### should i post it anyway. He doesnt have to answer to people on a internet message board. If he did post if you'd find a way to pick at the picture and say it was fake somehow.

Hello'
A walleye out of the Allegheny reservoir that is 35.5 would weigh around 13-15 lbs. Through the ice a 30" fish will go between 11-13 lbs full of eggs. The Pa. record came from the Allegheny reservoir 17.9 lbs. I think the fish was 36.25" But was full of eggs. If what you say is true CONGRATS.
