Jigged mouth of river off Peche Island on Tuesday. Started at 5:30PM, had five in box by 7:00. The thunderstorm moved through and then nothing. It just shut em down. There are a lot of fish in that area right now. Last Saturday me and a buddy started at 6:30AM. We had 7 (I had my limit)by 7:30 and 12 by 8:15.
Good Luck all!

Joe C,
Is Peche Island at the mouth of Lake St.Clair and The Detroit River? If so, my buddy and I have been having a lot of luck right there jigging tipped with crawlers. Is that your method too? What colors have you been using?
Thanks!
Yes, it is right where Lake St. Clair forms the Detroit River. I have been fishing that area for many years. There are always fish there if you know where to look. I have had the best luck lately with white jigs with either a hole a half night crawler. I use live night crawlers exclusively from early spring (believe it or not) until late fall and do real well.

White, eh? We've been doing fairly well using chartreuse/orange, but haven't been limiting out, so thanks for the tip. I've been fishing that area for two years now and you're right it seems to hold a lot of nice size fish. Thanks again and good luck fishing.

One more thing Joe.... What size jigheads are you using?

That would be the Source of the River, the Mouth is where it empties into Erie, I don't mean to be a smart a@@ about it, it's just every time I see a post from the Mouth of the Detroit River i'm thinkin Erie.

Source it is. Thanks smart a@@!!!! Just kidding! Thanks for your knowledge!
Canuck,
I use 3/8-1/2 ounce jigs. I don'think it matters all that much. Yes, white with some color in clear water conditiions this year has been a killer recently. In years past, black with chartreuse dots has been good in clear water. Of course, if the water is dirtier, chartreuese with black dots is always good. It is very important to change colors in my opinion. The handliners constanly change spoon colors, jigs are the same. I see so many people out there that seem to just use the standard chartreuse green jig and thats it. They never change colors. They also don't catch a lot of fish. I am either in a green 18'crestliner SF w115 Johnson or a 20 foot fiberglass (my buddies boat) that says Neptune in the side.
Good Luck!

I'll be sure to look for you out there. Thanks again for all the helpful information. Being somewhat new to fishing, it's nice to be able to get advice and then teach others (i.e. my father and brothers). Hopefully, I'll be able to put the face with the name sometime. Good times and good fishing!
