Want to bring some boys from work to catch some steelies. Has anyone had luck with them yet. None of these guys have caught them before and I want to watch their eyeballs pop out of their sockets when they get one hooked. Thanks for any help. Bob

I have made 4 trips out to the "Sandbar" area in search of Steelhead. Have hooked up with 7 in the last 4 outings. As you can see the action is still very slow.

Method: Trolling Dipsys 55 on 1.5 and 65 on 3.5
Lures: Scorpion spoons, best colors Watermelon(Gold)and Monkey Puke.
Speed: 2.0 to 3.0 range.

Fish were widely scattered.

Hope this helps.

Did you catch any walleye using that setup during any of those trips?

I only picked up 3 average walleyes, they are not in the area in any numbers yet either. I did try other colors and baits and different distances back. No luck. I did pick up a couple tickets with that setup on the 32 ft line off Ruggles and the Castle area. That was last week just before the Northwest blow.

the steelies have started, they have been taken the last couple of days from the 33 line to the 39 line, (north)and from the 06 line to the 19 line (east-west) they also have bee taken from the top 8 foot of water to 38 foot down, so gang it be starting now, but dont hesitate to long , for the water temperature is moving up fast this year, and it may not last too long this year. good luck and good fishin.

I was out Sunday trolling for walleye and had three steelhead on but lost them all. One fish had to come out of the water six feet, what a sight. We were near the 35 line fishing on both sides of the nets.
We also caught eight walleye. Six of the eight fish came off a 20 jet 100' back on little board. Purple Stinger spoon was the ticket. We were not moving as fast as some of the other boats that we saw trolling, our speed was 2.0 to 2.3 mph. The stealhead all hit on dipseys. By the way we were out of Lorain

Hopes this helps
