I called the MN DNR today to ask about how I might buy a lifetime license. They told me that to do so you needed to send in an application form and that there would be a three week processing time for that form. The problem? They don't have any forms yet. And they don't know when they might get some.
Hmmm...It's February 6th and my current license expires at midnight on the 28th. If I want to be doing any fishing the weekend of March 2nd and 3rd I guess I'll need to wait until 2002 to buy one.
FYI, I calculated the payback as follows:
Sports license regular = $24.00
Lifetime sports license = $613.00
Payback in 25.54 years assuming no inflation.
