In your mind what's the best transom savers on the market today? How much do they really help? How big of a motor do you half to have to use one.

I am in need of one also, I need the type that has a "Bend" at the end to reach my trailer... I looked around on Cabelas, they only have 1 kind of the type I need... I'm also wondering if there are any other options? I hate to buy the first one I saw... I know its not that big of a deal, but what else do I have to do this time of year except research transom savers?

Thanks,

John

Hey Guy's, I have a pair of Whitecaps and love them.
I think they can be reached at splashguards@aol.com I got an exceptional deal on mine but think they are about half the price of original WaveWhackers.

I've seen them on 14 footers with 20HP. If you backtroll and don't like being wet get some. They attach to the boat with wing nuts and can be taken off for travel or tarping or storage.

Good Luck,

Ferny.

i have had two. The first was a straight model with rubber shock absorber things inside. It was ok.. but the model I have now is better.

It is bent, inserts into a hole in the tailer( easy compared to crawling under a dripping boat) and is held in position by a bungee strap.

Yes they are worth it, if they are tight and you strap your boat down to the trailer.

Out in Oregon Land where the water temp is 37 degrees and the walleyes are barely needing to fight the current in the Columbia.

when trailering a boat with a kicker does one need a transom saver or are there any different ways to transport a kicker

I have a transom saver for my kicker but quit useing it the kicker seems to ride better locked in the down position as long as it wont hit the ground.

In down position (my choice) or strapped securely up -- you'd need a mighty big kicker to require a transom saver rod.

There are _no_ good transom savers. The skin of your lower unit is not designed to absorb the point-stress which comes from a good bounce. I have seen two lower units (not mine) destroyed (punched through) after the rig went over a pothole in one case, and a rough railroad crossing in another case.

Check with your outboard manufacturer, you'll find several do NOT recommend transom savers. Next check with the boat manufacturer. These guys hold your warranties so listen to what they have to say.
For my kicker I tilt it up to a clear position and bungee it tightly to my trailer so it doest turn or bounce. Doubled 3/8" bungee.
