The wife wants me to plan a vacation to Missouri, some kind of family thing. I have been thru but have never vacationed there. Can anyone tell me if Missouri has any good walleye waters. If so could you please tell me which ones, best tactics and any other information that will keep me on the water and out of the (I remember when) slump.

Thanks in advance
Rod

Where in Missouri? Pretty slim pickins, overall. Down there they think goggle eyes (rock bass) are good eating!

the state of missouri lists the walleye as a game species and the state record is 21# 1 oz!, here is the link for game species:

21 pounds, wow, maybe it's one of those best kept secrets, good fishing to ya.

Hans,
Have you ever been there to come up with the slim pickings conclusion?

My folks live about an hour from Stockton down in SW Missouri. It's very pretty water and very undeveloped. You don't go there for the night life. Springfield is close enough and is home to Bass Pro shops and their CLEARANCE CENTER :-). I only got to fish Stockton for a little while due to family obligations, but I vowed to get back there. If you are not big on crowds, this is the place to go.

Back issues of Walleye Insider has info on Stockton. I'm not sure anyplace in MO is a walleye hotspot......yet :-). Maybe the locals know better and just aren't talking :-).

Family used to go to Lake of Ozarks for a week each summer - also Table Rock Lake south of Springfield. Lotsa green carp (bass) but we never got into any walleye.

Look in the Archives for the posts from last week concerning Bull Shoals. There are walleyes and biggums if you know who, when and where to go

I use to be "BruceMO" till I moved up here. Yes, there are walleye in Missouri, precious few. But no one goes to a steakhouse to order filet of cod, or a donut shop for a cheeseburger. Go to Missouri and fish for what is good down there that you can't get here! Stripers! 8LB bass! Trout, Channel Catfish, and even 1 lb shiner minnows. Anything but waste time for low percentage walleye!
