this post is a followup to prior thread about the harrisburg show. I was told by someone that the harrisburg show was "no comparison" to the cleveland IX center show (implying that the harrisburg show was far better). I disagree!!

I enjoyed the show, but was disepointed by the teavel (not hunting or fishing lodges)section. the state of PA could not privide me with any brouchures or info relating to the Pymatuning area!!! I must admit that the archery area was impresive, but as a fisherman and non-hunter the IX show has more to offer me. more boats, more camping trailers and equipment, more family related and general travel info, ect..

No complaints though, I was glad the show was in harrisburg at the same time I had to be there for work. I enjoyed the show, but still look forward to cleveland in march!

My impressions of the two shows are as follows:

If you want to book a Fish/Hunt Lodge, Safari etc. - Harrisburg is the place to go.

If you want any kind of EQUIPMENT - Cleveland, hands down!

I have to agree with Ranger. Very big show, alot of outfitters, but hardly any fishing tackle. I was looking to pick up salmon stuff but found very little and not what I was after. No lectronics to speak of for sale and very little info on the ones that were there. Saw some boats, trucks, campers but not many. Have to say it is better than any show in New Jersey or New York that I have been to. As far as any deals, not many, found better prices in sports stores or in the mail in catologs. Might go back in 5 years to see if things change. As far as booking hunting or fishing trips, I myself like to get as much info on good places there and then after the show look into references and the like to really find out about the outfitter.I would have to say there was more hunting booths than fishing. Now I need to see the Cleveland show for myself, just a long ride from Jersey. Thats my perspective of the show. JJ

JJ.. Clevelaqnd is awesome, great seminars with quite a few pros. Reps from major fishing tackle supplies (Offshore, Lowrance etc)and some good deals on tackle especially the last day or 2. Take it in if you get the chance.

http://www.expoinc.com click on map location furtherst west. Friend of mine has a booth every year. I stay with him and ride with him. He knows all the back roads to IX Center and never goes same way twice. I would only get you lost if I tried to give you directions. Hopefully one of the locals will catch this thread and help out with lodging/directions. You will love it.

Jersey John,

There is a Best Western about 3 klicks from the IX Center, you can access via the internet. Good accommodations, easy route to the show and GOOD restaurants nearby that are resonably priced. Try the "Garden" off of route 11, I think, it is the road that runs perpendicular to the road in front of the Best Western, head South. The Cleveland show is the best in the east IMHO!

JJ,
Several motels on Snow rd, which is the exit of I-71 that takes you to the IX center. Also next exit south of Snow Rd, which is Bagley Rd. (Berea) , there is a red roof in as well as several others.
Try using Yahoo Travel or one of the other travel search engines.
They will give you a map and motels/restaurants nearby.
Dont forget to make a trip downtown to the "flats" if interested in some "nightlife".

small world Ranger, when I was 15 I worked as a bus boy at the Garden on Snow Rd. Food is prety good and the prices are/were great- try breakfast. there are plenty of good resturants there and along bagley rd. as for hotels, I would suggest anything on Snow or Bagley, but avoid staying on BrookPark Rd. Becuase of the bars and strip clubs, they don't have the best clientelle. I am glad I was able to go to harrisburg, but can't wait for the IX show.

the IX center is located off of 252(the Berea freeway) just south of the airport. There are a few "Quicker routs" but the simpelest is to head west on snow road, from I71, then turn left-south when the road dead ends into a concrete wall. then you will see the big sign on the right. veer to the right onto ? road and follow to the parking lot. the only rong turn easily possible is to turn to soon off of 252 and end up on cargo Rd. near the airport post office, but if you dont veer right untill you pass the big IX sign you will be ok
