Hi, I was wondering if you had some advice on Lake Shamineau in Around Brainerd,MN. We were taking two boys(10-12) and were looking for some action such as:Pike and Bass(both kinds). We were also going to fish for eyes,so if you have any advice on resorts tell us that too please! If you have any advice on other lakes and resorts around Brainerd tell us.

Thanks!

Tim

It's been awhile since I fished Shamineau (about 12 years) but I'll give you what I know. Bear in mind the info might be a little dated.

The lake is very clear, and although there is a resident population of walleye, it's mostly a night-bite lake. Also holds some nice northern, but not large quantities. In other words, this lake makes you WORK for your fish.

Shamineau is near Motley, some distance away from Brainerd. As I recall there is one resort, a small mom/pop operation consisting of a few mobile homes converted to cabines, on the northwest corner of the lake just off Hwy 10. Not much "family activities" in the area.

You might want to investigate some lakes closer to Brainerd/Merriweather/Nisswa area such as Gull or the Whitefish chain. You'll have a lot more choices in good lakes and resorts, and other activities for the family.
