There was an earlier post discussing about what your favorite way to catch walleyes. I am ready to go with a JIG!
There is nothing better than sitting in the boat when the wind is out of the NW at about a 15mph clip, light waves rolling against the side of the boat with a good quality jig rod in my hand. Especially when it is late spring and the eyes are just rolling onto the bite. Take a 1/4 oz'er, slip on a nice fat rainbow or shiner minnow, flip it out and let her slowly decend to the bottom in about 10 to 12 feet of water. After raising and lowering the jig a couple of times, that patented "thump" awakens the spirits. That is when the inhale and slight hesitation occurs in anticipation of the hookset. Now when the next slightest notion of something attempts to devour the minnow, POW...set the hook! The fight is on, it has to be an eye, I can tell how she stays down! After a great first fight, a flash of the tail proves it to be a nice 'eye'. The white tip shines on the bright sunny spring day through the stained water of a long winter!!
OOps, sorry, got caught up in the moment...please, how about if good ole ground hog decides to visit us for the rest of the winter into spring and a long fall!!! I need soft water!!!
