The wifes parents live pretty close to Stockton Lake and we are making a trip there the first week of September.
I have never even seen this body of water.
Does anyone have any GPS waypoints they would be willing to share?
Or any helpfull information for areas to fish?
I'd like to take her brother out there and catch some walleyes.
Thanks in advance

Scott,
Sorry cannot give any info on Stockton, but thought since you'd be checking this thread.....
On the fishing reports page you probably will want to have someone list the Kabetogama/Namakan report from Phil Hart in the "Minnesota" section and remove it from the Wisc. section. Kab and Namakan are on the MN/Canada border, in the same water system as Rainy (they both flow into it) Phil is a nice guy and gives honest reports, and his store can be a lifesaver for those of us that camp up there!
Thanks for giving us a great site.
Chris

OOPS, I live in Colorado and when I can't pronounce a name I automatically think it's in Wisconsin :-)
Lake Stockton anyone?

I grew up in the Kansas City area, but i must admit I was a bass fisherman! My friends and I would sometimes catch eye'e in deep timber while jigging for bass. They would hit Mann's Grape Jelly worms sometimes. I have never fished Stockton before, but most of the Missouri Res. have lots of deep coves where the timber was left standing and then flooded. Sometimes the channel actually swings right up against the timber.I know thats not much to go on, but like I said, I was bass and crappie fisherman back then. (Forgive me I was Young).

There is a Fishing Hot Spots map for the lake that should get you off on the right foot.

Scott, I'm not fishing the MWAA tourney that weekend, but my ol' pard GLYDE RYDE is. Can't therefore give you specific spots, but in general:
Early September is either boom or bust. Last couple of years, it's been a bust. Fish hard to come by. But perhaps not so this year, because the water was so high for so long. (It's within inches of normal pool now.)
Over the past 3 years, the MWAA September tourney has been won with bouncers/spinner rigs/crawlers, generally on soft-bottom humps in 12-17 feet of water in midlake areas. If you can find a bluff bite adjacent to the channel swings, though, you can catch a boatload pretty quick.
Generally, you'll find more "bouncing water" (larger, shallower flats/humps) in the upper half of each arm of the lake.
Trolling cranks has accounted for some better fish lately. There are always some fish shallower than 10 feet, but the 15-20 foot range is best until October.
Early/late in the day, throwing Rogues or jigs to windy main-lake points will get you some decent fish. Roadrunners can be deadly.
Wind is important on Stockton. Wind is good. If you have a choice between windy side or calm side, 9 times outta 10 the windy side is the place to be.
Stockton is primarily a put-and-take fishery. Probably 80-90% of the fish you catch will be keepers--over the 15" minimum. But it's hard to find very many over 20". They're out there, though.
Hey, it's a start. Maybe John or some of the other MWAA guys will check in with some help for ya on Monday...
Good luck!

Scott, I have a couple of waypoints I'll e-mail to you if I can find them. My partner & I won the USFA championship there in 1998 and I think I still have the waypoints we used. I'll check tonight and get back to you on Monday.

Scott,
We fished a PWT there in the spring so that pattern doesn't hold water BUT, I saw every square acre of the system....
Generally, all systems at that lattitude, at that time and later, will hold fish where the MAIN channel comes into the banks at a right angle. The first 100yds. of such a place, which will be a high rock slide type cutbank, is the spot on the spot. You can see these areas on the map and from a distance on the water. Spinners and bouncers from 25'-40' ft. is the key. This depth range is only about a ten foot wide area along shore in these locations. Paying attention(fish holding spots are VERY small) to exact boat control, relative where your bait actually is, is critical. (no matter what your definintion of "is" is...lol)
Good luck!

Examples of these "channel bangs", as I call'em, is the area on the up and own side of the #215 bridge, east side the river, and the area just down stream of where the "Little Sac" joins the "Big Sac". I think, if the memory bank has any deposits left, that is called "point #2" on the shore marker, which again would be on the east side of the river. That old river channel, as in most southern systems, winds from side to side very often. Them's the walleye haunts I have found in that neck of the woods over da years....

Thanks Everyone for all the help.
I'll keep checking until I leave this saturday, so anyone else that has any ideas or GPS waypoints, let me know (unless they are your personal best honey hole of course.)

It's getting close to time for me to head to Missouri so I thought I'd pop this back to the top for one more ride.
Thanks to everyone that has helped so far.

I HAVE BEEN FISHING STOCKTON QUITE A BIT THIS SUMMER & HAVE BEEN CATCHING QUITE A FEW WALLEYES. WENT THIS LAST WEEKEND & CAUGHT 6 KEEPERS ON SATURDAY & 5 KEEPERS ON SUNDAY, ALSO QUITE A FEW SHORTS. BEST AREAS I'VE FOUND HAVE BEEN THE FLATS OUTSIDE MUTTON CREEK MARINA & THE ISLANDS AT MASTERS COVE. TROLLING SHAD COLORED CRANKS BAITS & SOMETIMES USING JIGS WITH WORM SEEMS TO WORK BEST. FISH THE FLATS NEXT TO THE CHANNEL. HOPE THIS HELPS
