I am going to be working in the Au Claire area of Wisconsin from mid-september through mid-October and plan on bringing my boat with me.
Can anyone give me information on nearby fishing lakes with good access? I don't mind driving a distance on the weekends, but after work mid-week I would like to spend my free time after on the water.
I have a tracker 190 fiberglass w/175 H.P. and need a launch that will acomodate me.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Scott, you couldn't be coming at a better time of the year in my opinion. Assuming it stops raining and the water levels drop I would recomend the Chippewa Flowage. Thats the best water and its pretty close (45 Minutes) Abundant Walleye and some muskies. Work at it and you will find them. Lake Wissota by Chippewa Falls isn't bad either.

Pete, thanks for the info. Any info on local bait shops, and likely techniques for these waters? Also what other species am I going to encounter on my outings? ( bass, northerns, muskies, panfish? )
Thanks a heap.

Best Musky and Walleye fishin' within a reasonable distance is on Lake Mohawskin near Tomahawk. Very, very, very stumpy. Lots of cover and very few jet-ski idiots. Work the stumps with jig & minnow combos and hang on. The river leading North out of Lake Mohawskin is crawlin' with smallies . We're going back in the fall.

Scott,
Email me at TK_551@myexcel.com if you get a chance. If you want to do a weekend trip, I fish Castle Rock and Petenwell which is not too far from Eau Claire.

Thanks for the info all. It's definite that I am going to make this trip now, so having an idea where to spend my free time after work is super. Sure beats sitting in a hotel.
THANKS!!!

You might also want to try Lake Menomin also. Used to fish walleyes
there trolling shadraps. If you come from the west on 1-94 you'll cross the Red Cedar River which empties into the lake and you'll be able to see the lake. Lot of nice launches there. Other species are
smallmouth, Northern pike, White bass, All your panfish species, and a few large mouth Bass.
