I'm not clear on what it is your asking here Adam. Do you mean using mono on one spool and the braided on the extra spool (to be able to switch back and forth), or do you mean using the mono for backing with the braided line?
The answer to both questions is yes. You can.

Knowing how you can get confused as easily as me...hehehe do you really mean a braided line with the diameter of 10# mono or do you mean the strength of 10# mono? If it is the later, it will probably be a thinner diameter than a 10# mono.. Even if you did mean the diameter of a 10# mono it should still work. ;-)

Well, if your reel is meant for 4-12 lb. line it shouldn't be a problem. The mono is definately within that range, but I'm not sure about that other stuff. You say it's 10 lb. dia.? How many lb. test is it, it being a superline, it's obviously much higher.

What that means is that your reel was built to handle between 4-12 lb test line, and the 10 lb. diameter superline will obviously exceed that.
The reel rating doesn't refer to line diameter, it refers to line strength. It wouldn't be a problem to exceed the lb./test rating by a little bit with the powerpro, but what's the use of having a line that can handle over 20 lbs. when your reel is only meant to handle 12.

It will be perfectly ok to have two spools with different line/line strengths, but when you are doing it, just pay attention to the line strengths, the will have nothing to do with it.

I used to do it all the time, but remember there will e a difference in the drag settings to take into consideration.OK want some serious head scratching? I bought three reels all at the same time, so in effect I have six spools to contend with, the main thing I take into considration is the line rating on the rod the reel s are on.For example, during the winter months I used a 5 lb braid with a one lb line diameter for my float and fly rig. On y other rod I was using a braid of 10 lb with a 2lb diameter, and on the third, I was usinf a 20 lb braid with a six lb diameter. My biggest concern is making sure the fluro leaders are of different breaking strenghth. On twoof my bait casters I, m using 40 and 50 lb braid, and on the other two bait casters I'm presently using fluro[vanish].

hey rivereye but when i got to the powerpro website why does it say to match up the diameters of the mono to the powerpro(brided) line? but really i could just use 10lb powerpro right?
