View Full Version : "Walking" Mora Auger
I put new blades on my Mora. When I go to drill it just wants to walk across the ice. I've double checked to make sure the blades are on correct. The company told me to use a shim. The shim was to be placed between the two screws away from the sharpened side blade. Tried it an it still doesn't work. The company then said to double or triple shim (experiment). Still can't get it to drill. Surely someone else has had this happen to them. Suggestions needed. In the meantime I bought a Laser auger. However I want to know what happened with the Mora.

Just on a long shot, are the blades upside down? Not being a smart$ss, I did it once myself and felt really stupid when I was shown that I did have the blades upside down.
I do not know this kind of auger but have you tried the shims on the blade edge or sharp side of the screws that hold the blade in place? I had the same sort of problem one time and this corected it for me.
Good Luck

Is there a chance that your shaft is bent. This happend to one of mine and it was a beast to drill holes with. Just a slight bend will give you the blues.
No I know the blades are on correctly. Put my auger beside two others to make sure. No, I didn't try the shims on the sharp side. A guy told me they used to sell the replacement blades with shims. So shims must be the trick. If I could only find out the secret.
Hi again, The shims I used when I was having the problem were just flat pieces of tin about 2" long by 1/8" by about 1/64th thick. All you did was push them between the blade and the support half way to where the screws come through to hold the blades on. Once they were in place they never moved. The tin was about the thickness on a paper match. I hope this will help you as it is bad to see a person who wants to fish have problems.
Good luck,
Russ
