I hate to open an old can of worms but I have been thinking about a post from a while back. I cant remember what it was titled but the gentleman was talking about how people should not place non-paying sponsors stickers on their truck or boat. He also said that if you put stickers on your rig from manufacturers that did not sponsor you, you were a "wanna be" and "the real fisherman know who you are."

In my opinion, I think it is neat to see stickers galore. It shows people that you are excited about your hobby. Displaying stickers from manufacturers that you believe in is good for the sport of fishing in general. My sons have NFL jerseys that they wear. They do not play pro football but they like to cheer for their team. Whats the difference between that and putting a Lund sticker on your truck?

I think anyone who begrudges a person for displaying stickers is an elitist and feels that someone might be stealing their thunder. I say show everyone what products you stand for and be proud. Who cares if they sponsor you.

I couldn't agree with you more. I's no different than wearing a jacket with your boat brand, or your St. Croix hat or whatever. I,ve had some very good conversations strike up with people just from a simple fishing cap. People see you have a common interest and every once in awhile you even make a new friend.

Hey Minnesota,

I gotta weigh in on this one. It is no problem for me if a guy wants to sticker up his truck and boat. True some people are doing it to be wanna be's, but there are two levels of them as well.

There are the guys that are new to the tournament/Pro game and are hungry. They are doing anything they can to get the attention of the people who make the products they like. You know one of these guys the minute you talk to them. These are the anglers that are gonna end up driving the future of angling.

Then there are the ones that just load up the truck with stickers and, well let's just say you know one of these anglers they minute you talk to them too.

It really doesn't matter how much you load up your vehicle with stickers etc., unless you can bring the rest of the package to the public for your sponsors. Yes a sponsor will want you to display their logo on your vehicle and on clothing.

However, your personality, professionalism, public image, ability to not only sell product for them, but to be knowledgeable about their product and be able to conveigh your reasons for using their product to the general public is what the sponsor(s)are looking for.

Sponsors are basically everywhere, in that, when the sponsor is serious about you, they will talk to their pro's about you. The will pay attention to how you conduct yourself at a tournament weigh in and rules meeting. If you have other sponsors, they may speak to them. Pro Walleye Fishing is a small arena, and your actions will speak much louder than a sticker on the side of a truck.

Have fun......R

Just rember the one "sticker" that counts. It's round with a number inside. This helps people distinguish brand support from sponsorship.

This is a good issue. I have stickers on both the boat AND trucks. Some are membership stickers while others are brand stickers. I arrange them on the rigs in such a way to provide the best image for both my vehicles and the products. I support the products I use and I am proud of those products. If I can help spread the word, Hurray!

If someone thinks I am a wanna be, that's their ego trip, not mine! I don't pretend to be a Pro and I do not claim to be one either. I am an avid sportsman that believes that image support is very important and I am just a rolling/floating, spead-the-word, good ole boy. YeeHaw! Put the stickers on that you like and don't worry about what anyone says. They would if their wife let them. ;-)

I buy them and I show them! Ask me and I will tell you all I can about the products from a none-sponsored point of view. I use them cause I like them after years of trying everything else.

Hey, I don't want any sponsors, but I wonder if Glenmorangie or maybe Grolsch will send me a sticker to cover the scraped paint spot on my boat where my grandson was learning smallcraft docking seamanship? ;-)

Hey Hans...........I like your add on of "every valuable idea offends someone". Very true to the point. I would even go so far to say "every idea offends someone".

Hey Hans! Just steam off the label on the bottle and glue it to your boat. Or, maybe get a hold of a distributor and see if you can use their trucks as a tow vehicle. Or, tow one of those big blow up bottles behind your boat. That'll turn some heads, I betcha(LOL).

How Much?

Just wondering what it cost you to buy # 67?

It should not matter. Why was this question even posted? Personally, I would not want to load up my vehicle and boat with stickers, could make it look tacky.
