I finally have an opportunity to fish Lake Erie in the fall. I have only fished it once and that was in the middle of the summer last year. If you had the option, where and when would you go (Huron - late October, November)?
Thanks
Steve

Steve,
The best fishing gets going when the water temp hits 50*F, usually in late October/early November, depending on the weather. Good fishing can be had from now through mid-December. I would say the peak is early to mid-November. I've had real good days for numbers/size in early October, though.
Huron or Vermillion are both good launch sites.

Steve,
The Walleye fishing is starting to get going out of Huron now and should get better from now till early November. Drawback to waiting can be the later in the year the more likely the weather won't cooperate. You've probably seen the posts on the "General Discussion" page about the Walleye Central 2002 Huron Get Together which is the first weekend in November. It will be a great time with lots of WC people attending.
Right now the yellow perch fishing is outstanding between Vermillion and Lorain on the Sandbar. The best eye fishing is in the general area N / NE of Huron 5-8 miles from shore. Starting in a few more weeks there will be more steelhead showing up in front of Vermillion. Week of October 15 should offer you the chance for a triple header of Eyes, Perch, Steelhead if interested in a combo type trip. The eyes off of Huron now are averaging around 4 pounds with a few big fish each trip. This average should start increasing the rest of the year as more of the big fish show up.
Bottom line is anytime starting now and you should have a good trip as long as the weather cooperates. Huron is the place to be if your mainly interested in eyes. If the combo idea appeals to you then Vermillion is more centrally located to the action for all three species.
Good Luck,
Steve Carlson

How far out from shore do you need to go right now from Huron ?

CJ,
The daytime bite has been centered around the 28N 28W lines. This is roughly 6 miles N/NE of Huron. Huron River mouth is 24.5N 32.3W
The fish have been up in the water column and you can probably get them closer to shore - off of Sawmill / Ruggles / Castle area should get started soon. Might be there at night?
Good Luck,
Steve

Thanks for the info Steve .
As a rule the later the better, but as you know rules are broken. for an up to date info call me at the shop anytime and i can fill you in. it does look as though we may have a real good bite this fall, but mother nature controls the lake, so it is wait and see. the night thing hasnt started yet, but as the water cools it will get better, both days and nights. good luck and good fishin.
