John,
My family has a cabin on the north end of Long Lake. The lake has excellent walleye fishing and the walleyes dont get too much pressure because the majority of the people fish bass. Also a boy scout camp takes up a whole side of the lake. There can be quite a bit of boat traffic on the weekends, but it is pretty quiet during the week. The south end of the lake has a lot of good structure. Ive had good luck slipbobbering, running spinners and lindys during the day, and trolling and casting at night. The evening seems to be the best time to catch walleyes. There are a lot of walleyes in the weeds so that is a good place to start. Also if the walleyes aren't coopererating there is excellent bass and panfish fishing. When is your friend going to be there, I can be a little more specific about what has worked for me. My one big suggestion would be to get a hot spots map, most of the good spots are on there. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask.

I believe he is going the second week of August. Thanks for the reply. He will be thrilled
Besides the super fishing you are located near the finest drinking water in N.W. Wisconsin. I assume you frequent the artisian well at the northeast corner since you are up that way. We go there for all our drinking water.
There is no shortage of good northerns there either. A great trolling lake. We cannot troll on our lake so we go to Long or the Hayward area lakes for that.
I think the bait store on M south of D has closed but that used to be a good place for info. They have always been very helpful.
Perhaps see you on the water. We generaly launch at the narrows and depending on wind go either way.
TLY

John, I should be up there the second week in August. I've done really well slip bobbering with leeches on the weededges, and running spinners and with bottom bouncers over structure, or with bullet sinkers on the weed edges. The weed edge walleyes get a lot less pressure and I usually get a few nice smallies as a bonus. The lake has a really nice night bite, but only a couple of the locals take advantage of it. I like to cast rapalas over the top of the weeds or other structure, or troll with planer boards over the top of the same weeds and structure. If there are some fish being caught on the edges of a weedbed or other structure during the day it should be a prime spot for night fishing. Tell your friend that if they see a red crestliner 1750 fishhawk catching a lot of fish to come over and I can help them get on some fish.
tly, your right the artesian well has the best water. We get all of our drinking water there too. The bait shop on M is still in business, they just moved. They are still on M, on the same side of the road, but now they are closer to the lake. Hopefully I'll see you on the lake sometime.

Thanks for all of the help. I spoke to en(the one who is going) and gave him a horrible rendition to the above and then read the truth! he wonders about boat boat renal. the resort only has two available boats and he needs more. Anyplace else on the lake besides sunset or how about in town?
thanks again.

John, I know that Spring Waters Inn rents pontoon boats, and I think Waters Edge Resort also rents pontoons. I would call the Rice Lake and Spooner Chamber of Commerce, they would know who rents boats. Also you can tell them that if they get tired of fishing they can spend a day in Hayward. Hayword has all sorts of little shops, a really fun lumberjack show(good rib dinner that can come with it), and I saved the best for last The Freshwater Fishing Hall Of Fame! The freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame is really cool and definatly worth visiting. Also if your friend is a golfer there is a really nice golf course a couple of miles from Long Lake.
