Can someone tell me the difference between the 4-stroke 9.9 with a 20" shaft and the " big foot ". Why is one prefered over the other? Thanks to all who answer. JJ

I believe the bigfoot has a larger gear box. There are high thrust 9.9 merc/ mariners also. On these models the prop slides back and forth on the prop shaft.

The 9.9 bigfoot comes with a gearcase that would normally come on a 25 h.p. motor. The purpose is to provide better push on heavy rigs. Works well for commercial applications and for secondary power for trolling on some of the larger heavier walleye boats. Also makes it extremely heavy duty and bulletproof.
