We'd like to fish Brest Bay tomorrow, and have started sorting out the issue of access. Here's what we've learned so far:

1) The Lake Erie Metropark launch is definitely open (but a long run)
2) There is about 50' of shelf ice on Brest Bay in the vicinity of Brest Bay marina as of this morning, but the shore was ice-free near Stony Point
3) Bolles Harbor and the River Raisin were frozen as of Sunday

If we can find a place to carry in a 14' boat directly to the Bay, that would be our preferred option. Does anyone know of any public access points in the vicinty of Stony Point?

If we can't get direct access to the Bay, we'll probably stick around the lower Detroit River and try for a combo of perch and walleye.

Homer, can't help with stoney access I believe everything around there is private was out there last Thur. Launched out of Erie metro very tricky by ones self! Was gonna make the run to bolles but my partner cancelled on me so I pulled wire up around edison, pulled 2 fish just north of the hot water where the bottom drops down deep in front of the docks lots of fish marked in there. good luck ,I'll be heading for Brest next friday or sometime shortly thereafter, come ##### or hard water! We normally launch on the ice from Breast Bay Marina. It is pretty rocky and about a 10 foot drop but there is a path. I do not know if you could launch your boat there or not. You could possible carry it down but the trip back up could be difficult. The marina does not open till 8 am so there is no need to get there before then. It's located north of Sterling St. Pk. about a mile. When the road cuts left you will see a party store and a large sign for Breast Bay Marina. Hope this helps.

Thanks, guys. We called back to Brest Bay Marina late yesterday. They said that more ice had blown into the bay during the course of the day, so we ended up postponing. There's more warm weather coming, so we haven't given up hope yet.

As of 12/13, someone tried to break open Bolles Harbor, but only got it halfway opened up. The odd thing was the boat came from somewhere out in the lake and was not put in at Bolles Harbor. So the canal is broken up, but the boat launch area is still frozen.

Thanks for the quick reply....I assume by your response that the ramps are open as well?? Any ideas on where to start tomorrow in this area?
I typically fish Huron this time of year so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sundance, the ramp area was ice free.In the past we have done really well fishing in Brest Bay.If we had ice right now that is where everyone would be ice fishing.Be sure you keep a safe distance from shore after you get out of the channal( I always stay at least a mile out).Brest Bay will be to your left as you go out the channel. There is a huge sandbar you will find if you don`t run straight out a mile or so before taking the left.Last year we fished well into Dec. and took good numbers of eyes trolling Ripsticks 40-60 ft back.Watermelon was our hot color. Before the cold weather moved in , guys were doing good in 13-15ft of water.Post your results if you make it out.Wish I could go out but the big boat is winterized and I still have some xmas shopping to do.
Good Luck
