Lake Erie Metropark is definitely open. Don't know about the others.

You can call the Wyandotte Ramp at (734) 284-6774.

Duck hunter rescued from ice
Packed ice cuts off Fremonter's access to Mazurik boat ramp

News Herald reports

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DANBURY TOWNSHIP -- A Fremont man was stranded on Lake Erie Saturday afternoon after a shift in the wind blew ice into his path to the boat ramp. A broken boat motor worsened the situation.

Petty Officer Timothy Robertson of the Marblehead Coast Guard said Sunday afternoon that 36-year-old Terry Cleveland became stuck on the ice in a 14-foot aluminum boat while retrieving ducks.

Cleveland and about five other hunters were on the lake about 1:30 p.m. Saturday when the incident occurred at the Mazurik State Fishing Access near Lakeside.

A third party called the Coast Guard after seeing the hunters and Cleveland, Robertson said.

"The other hunters who were with him threw him a line and pulled him into the breakwall," Robertson said. "He was never in the water. He was never wet. He was dressed warm and had his life jacket on."

The Coast Guard used an ice-rescue skiff to plow through the ice, Robertson said. They then hooked onto the aluminum boat and pulled it to the dock. The process took about two and a half hours.

"His engine died and he was trying to paddle through it, but the ice was just too thick," Robertson said. "The conditions can change so fast out there. The wind shifted and pushed packed ice into the area and basically sealed off access to the boat ramp.

"It's pretty dangerous to be out this time of year."

Thanks... caught one of the days with low water. Also found that the bow mount had crapped! Tried back trolling but kicker wouldn't do the job. Boat going in to have skeg repaired from a summer Charity Island rock encounter and the bowmount also. Have a great hard water season.
