Just another "Cabin Fever" post, but hear me out.

I've been running Spider Line "Fusion" for the last couple of years and love it. I've often seen, but never used, Fireline (Berkley) and other brands (always wonder if there are only a couple companies that make it, but MANY labels put on it)

Does anyone have any comparisions? Does Fireline give you the same results as Fusion? Better? What other types of line does everyone like.

I'm talking about regular old NON trolling, casting/vertical fishing. I'm sure you trolling people have more variables to look at.

Thanks in advance,

John

I just wanted to push this back up to the top. Anyone out there used both 'Fusion' and 'Spiderline'... I'd like to hear a comparision.

I'm giving Power Pro a try this year. Similiar to fireline, but not supposed to fray as easy. It is also supposed to be round and lay on the spool more evenly. It held on to water too much for ice fishing.

I've tried the Spiderline lines and didn't not like them at all. The fusion really tangled for me when using light jigs and casting.

I did use fusion a few times and noticed a few things: it frays and get's little white balls in areas that are wearing and I HATED THE SOUND GOING THROUGH THE GUIDES. Because of all of that, I switched to power-pro. I will say that fusion was just barely more sensitive, but powerpro has not frayed or worn weird, and the sound going through the guides is barely noticeable.

I troll 20lb and use the 10lb on my spinning reel for casting cranks/spoons and jigging. Very stong stuff.

Try Whiplash, (Berkley) I used Fireline, Spiderwire this stuff is the best and doesn't cost as much..They have it at Gander Mt. or you can get it on line on the Berkley webb site. Use it for Walleye, Bass, it doesn;t fray or ball up or do anything except work great!
P.S. Gander Mt. is the only place I found it. They did have one large spool at Janns netcraft, but it was the wrong test. I'll have to check to see if they can order it.

I like the Fireline better, but if you are happy with Fusion, I would stick with it. There is nothing worse then a lack of confidence in any product. It can ruin a good trip.

I was thinking of trying the new Remington and Rapala fishing lines this year for a goof.

I have tried all mentioned except the power pro, will have to try that. I have used the Ripcord sold by cabela's, the si brand, found it to be too tough for walleyes, in that, not enough stretch, tore the hooks out of their mouth. Perhaps it was an adjustment period for me getting used to new line. Still have it on a spool for bass(hanging in lillys) and northerns. :)

I have tried Fireline,Spiderwire,Gorilla and Fusion.....
have settled on Fusion... easiest to work with and tough even if accidentally frayed..... mostly fish walleyes.... but here is a story for you...last fall on the red river (manitoba) decided to break up a slow walleye trolling trip with some channel cats...
the guy fishing with me was using my gear.... had along 3 rods for trolling all with Fusion... for some reason I rigged him up for cats with the spare rod... this was the one needing new line and the lining from the tip guide missing.... wouldn't you know it he hooks up with a very nice cat....45 minutes in the strong current to land and here is the funny part... my buddy would work him to the boat numerous, numerous times... and the fray on the line (down to a single thread) about a 12" section was always on the unlined tip guide.... this cat was fat, 37 1/2" long... probably 30lbs in fast current on 14lb fusion. tough stuff... i would keep telling him, your on the fray and he would pull out a foot of line
for vertical jigging i would probably use fireline with a mono leader... a little softer than fusion.... stay away from(gorilla)
and spiderwire seems brittle and cuts on the rocks easy
cannot comment on power pro but lots of guys love it but fusions half the price.....oh well i rambled on a bit
good luck with your choice
