View Full Version : Summer Erie Get-Together (Eastern Basin)

I've been surprised lately by the number of posts from eastern basin and NY anglers. I know it's a ways off, but thought I'd ask anyways. Any interest in a get-together in Barcelona? I've met several of the regulars from here and almost met several others, and I think it would be fun to have a "planned" weekend out there. I plan on being there quite a few weekends this coming summer anyways, plus the week of the PWT tourney at Dunkirk. Just thought I'd check out the interest. Of course, if it got too big, we'd need someone organized..like Gilligan..to carry the ball and handle the details! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

By mid-July the bite is usually decent at the eastern end, plus the weather is more condusive to actually getting out. Of course there's always Chatauqua Lake for blow days! If those interested want to send me their e-mail addresses..I guess I could start a list and keep everyone informed. I'm not big on organizing things, but that much I could probably handle. I love this board, but it's so darn popular that messages are often buried if you blink for too long. For those who don't know, my name is Chris and my e-mail is jstack5478@aol.com.and yes, I'm a fishaholic. Good Fishing, Sluggo

Chris one draw back could be guys that are doing tournaments having conflicting schedules.. think that is one reason they hold the one so late on Erie west end.

There will be back to back to back tournaments on Chautauqua July 7, 14-15th and 22nd. That may keep some of the guys away plus crowd things up pretty bad if we need to drop down there if Erie blows. That would leave 1 weekend before the PWT hits Dunkirk or maybe a weekend near end of August.

Whatever you think, let me know and I'll help out where I can.

Hey guys- this sounds like a fantastic idea. Can I make one suggestion? I don't know any of you, and I don't know how far you have to come to fish Barcolona, but I could save you guys some aggrivation, and expense, towing your boat. I can have three guys fish in my boat, and if you plan on staying more than two days, I have an 11 ft. truck camper that will sleep 4 guys nicely. This would cut down on your expenses. Barcolona is only 90 miles from my house. Ray

Ray.. sounds great maybe some of the guys without rigs or to small for Erie will jump on this one.

I run about 125 miles to Barcelona and Sluggo is double that.

Where do you stay when you fish there? I usually crash in the parking lot at the harbor. Hope to add camper this year, sleeping bag under truck cap is getting old.

Gilligan, It's been a couple years since I launched out of Barcolona. When I fished that part of Lake Erie, they let me stay in the parking lot. What I did was tie my boat up, and they charged me a $5 fee for staying over-night. I have other places where I can park this rig for free, but I'm not going to tell it over the internet. The last few years, I've moved up the lake 10 miles to fish North East. I can't see paying $5 to launch a boat and stay over-night. A PA non-resident costs $35 for the season. This is a real deal. It gives me two states to fish, and I feel the fishing is a lot better in Pennsylvania waters, than in New York. And if we get together this summer, you'll see how I opperate. I think you and Sluggo will like the idea on where I fish and save a few dollars on over-night visits. $35 for a season's pass is a steal. I know how you feel, sleeping in the back of a pick-up, with a cap and sleeping bag. When I started going away long-distances, I slept in the boat, and put the cover over it. Then, this old-timer got me started with the truck-camper. Far as I'm concerned, you can't beat it. Hope to meet you guys this summer. Ray

Sounds like a great idea. I can finally meet some of the people I've been "talking" to over the last year or so. Anytime is fine.

So far I have a list of seven interested people. Not bad for a couple of days! There's been mention of conflicts with tourneys at Chatauqua, preferences to PA waters and dates of availability. I'm very flexable when it comes to fishing. I get six weeks of vacation, comp days, and my kids are grown, so most of my vacation is fishing time. I've found that no matter what, when there's a group involved, you can't pick a date or place without conflicts. I'm open to suggestions for a date, but I want to fish out of Barcelona. I love the area and have done very well there. I've started to put together a mailing list of those interested, but Ranger..I need your e-mail address and name if you would. Either post it or send it to me. I'd love to see more interest..How about it Ness! I'll switch over to personal e-mailing but put an occassional blurb here to spark interst. Give me your choice of dates and we'll cast one in stone! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

SLUGGO,

On my post if you go up and click on the little head next to my name in the top left hand corner you'll get what you need. Sounds like a good idea! Hope the dates will work out and Erie will be fishable.

Ray,
I would like to take you up on the offer to fish and crash for the long weekend. I have an 8 hr. ride from Jersey and would make my trip alot easier since I will be driving alone if I left my boat at home. Let me know if this is ok with you. I will bring my tackle, rods, coolers, sleeping bag, etc. There will be plenty of room in my truck for those items. E-mail me at the above address. Thanks JJ

Eastern Erie in late summer sounded so good, I plan to try it as an amateur with PWT, and this might be a good way for everyone to get together, gather info and plan for future trips. Their dates are Aug. 8-10.

I recieved a note from Johnnie Candle suggesting that we tie it in with the week of the PWT. As I told Johnnie, I guess I looked at it as a conflict rather than an opportunity. Both Gilligan and myself will be there to fish the am. side of the PWT in Dunkirk anyways. The weekend prior to the tourney (Aug.4&5) sounds like a good idea to me. Plus..We'll get to rub elbows with some of the Big Guys! Whataya think? Sluggo (Chris) ps..I'm still fishing Barcelona!

I will have room for 1 or 2 in my boat if anyone needs a ride. Like Sluggo I'm fishing Barcelona. Muuuuuch more fishing friendly people there than Dunkirk. I'ts about a 6 mile run to the W79.35 line, the western boundary of where PWT will fish.
