With 10 inches of ice, we hit the Crib on Saturday.
Two of us ended up catching over a hundred perch,
taking 20 or so home. Four measured 11" and one
close to 12". Mostly though it was 6 and 7's.
As a bonus catch, one of my emeralds found its way
into the mouth of a foot long hellbender.
Suprise, suprise.

Thanks for the call Giligan. How was the afternoon
for you guys? Dang, was it cold out. I gave up on
the tip-ups after a couple hours and stayed inside
the well-heated shanty. Other than a half dozen
other anglers located in Burgis (SP) we we're the
only ones on the south end.

I'm also waiting for Gilligan's report. As he was my "guide", I don't feel it proper for me to report. 'Eye spy, congrats on what sounds like some pretty nice perch. Well Fred, your turn. Cold, wadda ya mean??? It was almost balmy on Sunday. I sat outside both days while Fred and Keith used the shelter...with heater. They offerred, but I'd much rather be outside.

What were your ice conditions down there? We relocated to Long Point and walked thru 200 yards of 8-10" deep slush. After that fiasco I will stay home on Walleye Central till open water. You ice guys are nuts, especially eyedoktr. Pete had frozen snot hanging 3" out of each nostril standing out in below 0 for 5 hours.

Mayville gave us a bit of action for several hours Sat am and it was all down hill from there. Best guiding I did was pointing the car to home!

My mercury had an egative 12 Saturday morning at 4:50am. That's the
last time I drive almost two hours to wet a line in those conditions.

Ice conditions were great. There were some small spots of 3 to 4
inch slush that scared the heck out of my brother riding on my
wheeler. Otherwise there was 2-6 inches of snow on top of 4 inches
of white ice with 6 inches of clear ice below.

I fished the Maple Springs area with three other guys on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. We caught about a dozen perch and a bluegill. No keepers. Ice was about 10 inches thick below a layer of slush. I realize that 5 degrees isn't cold by Minnesota standards, but I was freezing. Minnows froze stiff in about 15 seconds and every time I'd skim the ice off the hole, it would freeze over before I dropped my jig into it.
Got a call from Gilligan and it was good to hear that somebody was having some luck.

Man, you guys are all wusses. It was nice out. Fred, it wasn't snot. Just a little breath that froze as soon as it hit the air. That's why I have facial hair in the winter, it keeps the ice off the face. :-) I can't wait to get back on the ice tonite or tomorrow.

Bud, I plan on fishing Sodus at least one day this weekend. I'l post my results. I've heard that the deeper waters are safe to traverse now. Maybe we can find some walleye. I'll see ya in a couple of weeks.

Eyedoc--That's exactly what we were hoping. Maybe some bigger perch too? Keep in touch. Fishing Downtown Cleveland this weekend for perch and smelt. Maybe a northern or two also. LOL Budman
