Walleye Express

Went out tonight off from State park. Was out 1.68 (Garmin GPS 12 reading) miles on 12 inches of solid ice, over 11 1/2 feet of water. If I would have went out 1/4 mile more, I would have been in open water. Yup, there is still open water taking up a vast amount of the inner Bay. I'd say if a guy went out from any road West of the Saginaw River (as of now) all the way to Ericson Road, he'd be hard pressed to get out much farther than 2+ miles and stay out of the water.
Now on the other hand, people are getting out father East of the channel all the way to Sebewing and beyond. Bad part. Walleye fishing isn't that great on the east side during winter. I'm not saying non-exsistant, just not the greatest. You can go out many miles and still be in 10 feet of water.
Anyway. I had 3 fish come in to the hole between 5:30 and 6:00pm. They just stopped and looked at my offerings and went on. Three guys west of us caught 2 nice fish and 1 guy east of us caught one. All were caught on live bait deadsticked. I unfortunetly, was jigging two rods.
