Just got the recent skinny from my buds who fished last night and are out there right now.

Be aware that there is a thin ice spot between Nayonquin Point and Linwood road. Some guys went down in this spot Sunday. Ice just gave way underneath them.

Also, one of my buds put his 4 wheeler down last night at the crack South of Linwood road. The crack had opened up to 8 feet in a few spots. They found a tighter spot, but the ice gave way when my bud fallowed his bud across. They recovered his machine and gear, but the machine will be unusable for a while.

Just talked to my other bud on his cell phone, (lots of buds hey?). He's fishing right now in the center of the Balck Hole. A well marked trail and no crack problems. He has only had one fish in the hole all morning though.

Thanks for the Reports.
I was thinking of heading out this afternoon.
I thought it was still safe out of Linwood?
Everyone I've talked to said they're still getting out
Now I'm wondering if I should even try?

Have you heard any reports out of Pinconning?
Is the ice is safer up there?

Krazy.
As you know, things can change by the minute both ice conditions wise and fish catching wise on the Bay. When my buds went out last night things were tight. When they broke camp to come in, the crack monster was there in his ugly glory. The wind on the Bay can change things quick. Just be aware and take it easy out there. I'm planning to head out myself in an hour. Thinking State Park might be the safest right now.

My last info on Pinconing Rd North, was that the ice was thick and secure. Some buds doing good 2/3 miles straight out from AuGres, 22 to 26 feet. That info is almost a week old.

Thanks for the info.
Yeah, I know what you mean about conditions changing quickly!
I guess I'll stick with my original plan and head out of Linwood tonight.
Have you been fishing out of the state park much this winter?
I usually fish there, however, the cracks and winds have kept me away from that area this year.
We've had some success this winter in Linwood, however, it's hit or miss just about every other day.......That's why they call it fishing and not catching! Anyways, a bad day on the ice is still better than any day in the office.
Good Luck and thanks again for the info.

Krazy.
Didn't get out tonight. My bud stiffed me with the honey-do excuse. Hate going it alone out there, especially after the CRACK reports from my other buds. I go out of State Park a lot because of its easy Bay access for me. I only live 1/2 mile from the Hot-Ponds, near the Saginaw River mouth. Wish they would close that hot water discrarge all together. I could just keep the 4 wheeler parked right on the Bay ice all winter. :-).

Hey Dan. You said there is a well marked trail and no crack problems to get to the Black Hole. Where are you heading out from? I was out of linwood tonight. Managed to pick up two nice 4lb fish. Got across the cracks ok on the way out, but had to find a new way in. It looked like the crack broke up with all the traffic. So when are some of these bigger fish going to move into the river? I think I will try state park this weekend, I will keep you posted.

Fishhawk.
Both Ericson and Coggins has a well marked trail with no apparent bad spots. The christmas tree marks the safest spot to cross the only crack before the hole. My bud caught a 7 pounder tonight in the hole. But that was a all day effort. The females we caught over the weekend had eggs that seemed 3/4 mature. Seems a little early for that much maturity, but facts are facts. I'm thinking that they have indeed started their slow shallow water and river migrations. This colder weather coming up may stall that progress a little, but not for long. If your an old Bay chugger, you know that the State Park will eventually get hot. They really seem to like that SW pocket and shoreline towards the end of winter. How deep of water were you in out of Linwwod road?

Capt. Dan,
I fished out of Linwood yesterday afternoon. I got a late start and ended up running straight out to 15 FOW. NOTHING, not even a hit.
The majority of guys were out farther, probably in 18 to 20 FOW. I wasn't big on jumping the second pressure crack since I was solo last night. I only fished for 1.5hrs. I was going to try the Bay City State Park, however, the store where I used to buy minnows was closed? So, I had to turn around and head up to Linwood.
Oh well, hopefully I can find em' again this weekend.
Good Luck,
Krazy Kletus

Krazy.
Ya the Beaver Road Party Store closed late spring last year. Sure was handy having it just 2 mile West of the State Park. Sure aren't many places left to pick up minnows anymore.

Just checked the weather for the weekend. 15 to 25 SW for Saturday. Sure makes a guy think about them crack a lot more when fishing.

Dan
We fished 20 feet of water out of Linwood. Last Fri. we went out of Ericson Rd.( 13-19 feet did alot of moving, fish game in 19fow ) and got 2 fish for an all day trip. How far is it to the black hole from Ericson Rd? I know Im asking alot here but would you have any gps numbers that would get me close to the hole. I dont want them just for ice fishing but would like them for the boat too. I think I have been close with the boat but Im not sure if I was in the Black Hole or not. Going to head out tomorrow, not sure if we will go out of Linwood or State Park. Have to sleep on it and see what kind of weather we get. I will keep you posted on how we did. Good luck to you if you make it out this weekend.
