hey Jim why don,t you get off your duff and get to the river the fish are biting.!!!!!!!!!!! how,s the back feeling!!!!! mine went out again last week it laid me up for four days, ##### of a thing all i did was bend a little to grab the remote for the T.V. and next thing you know i,m on my knees crying like a 8 year old girl with a scraped knee, i,m over it now and icthing to get on the water.
Here's Brians web site www.abqsportfishing.com
The walleyes are far and few between, but the striper fishing is great. Check out the picture section of Brians site.
Thanks for the info. I e-mailed brian as you suggested and look forward to hearing from him. I am told that the last part of March on into April is prime time for top water action and using Ballons with live Shad also works great. These techniques worked well at the Twin Lakes in Arkansas and also Lake Cumberland. I hope Elephant Buttes turns out to be good as it would be alot closer to Denver. Arkansas is about 17 1/2 hours versus 10 hours to E/B

Just got back from there a week ago. Went out with MexicoNM (Brian) for 4 days of Striper fishing. We caught 36 striper. Lost a couple big ones and had many more hits.
You can read all about our trip and see pics at his website. http://www.abqsportfishing.com

Hmmm, do I detect a hint of jealousy! Oh, by the way, how's the ice fishing treating you?

A hint? it was plastered all over it!
Went out a week and a half ago and caught 7 trout and 4 walleyes in 5 hours of fishing. Not bad, but not stripers. I've the got the itch for open water fishing big time. I spent all weekend replacing the treble hooks on my crankbaits while sitting in my boat in the garage. It's almost enough to drive a man to alcoholism.

I smell a road trip coming up. Think Mexico would drop me a few tips in the event I decided to make the haul? Hummm.... gonna have to count up my kitchen passes and see if I can get away.
Wow!!! I read the article. Thats a trip of a lifetime. If you have any tips on equipment and gear needed Please advise. I was planning on end of March but will see what Brian has to say about coming earlier. Cabin fever has been setting in.

The way our trip was last weekend, I'd go back this weekend. Why wait another month and a half. Heck, it's only a 13 hour drive from my door, maybe I will. See you there Kooser :-)
I'll let Mexico fill you in on the equipment you'll need. He'll be able to set you up.

Eric,
Hey, that's pretty good. . . for the kind of fishing you're doing

All,
Thanks for the great support.
THE FISHING IS AWESOME RIGHT NOW. Obviously it is fishing and some days are better than others.
Sat - 2 hours - 7 fish (seminar during the day)
Sun - 12 hours - 9 fish
Mon - 8 hours - 3 fish
I have a no fish guarantee in my rates for a reason, it is pretty tough not to catch one.
My presentation is exactly the same as for Eye trolling. These fish pattern in a similar fashion and the live bait rigging and balloon lining I leave to the locals. Trolling covers 100 times the water they will cover in a day. Right now (soon to change) I am the only Striper guide trolling with boards. Most won't even longline a crank.
After hearing a guide had 3 spots and 1 story, I felt like the customers deserved more than that. Wheels and Jason will confirm we caught all of our fish down by the dam and in front of the marina off the tires. My north spot wasn't producing. This last weekend word got around that we nailed the fish by the dam and marina and I couldn't even make a pass with the 40 boats that were down there. I went north (Wheels knows the spot) and we hooked 6 fish within about an hour without a boat in sight. Soon all the other guides were up on us with live bait and balloons and we moved on. With my loud 4 stk kicker and AP guiding us back to the dam we hooked 5 more fish after everyone left.
I guess I am going to need to get a baffler for the kicker motor so I don't spook the fish we are catching.
Not trying to be too much of a j _ _ _ a _ _, but trolling has proven itself to be a very good way of covering water. These fish move by the hour and will dessimate a shad population in minutes. I'd rather be moving with them, occasionally running in circles or fig 8s, and staying in the fish, rather than waiting for them to happen by.
Tackle:
I use all my St. Croix GT80M rods and some Cabela's 9 foot innerflows, Daiwa SG27LCs or Power Pak 415 LCs, spooled with 30/8 Powerpro. I replace my Reef Runner hooks with Gamakatsu Super Trebles (2 or 4) or shiner hooks in a 4/0 or 5/0. The shiner hook may look funny on the Reef Runner, but it has better holding power. These fish are aggressive and even a 5#er can give you a heck of a fight. All colors of Reef Runner tend to produce and I have some favorites. Frenzies also work in the FDM.
As for Walleye, the reservoir down the road has a good population and is only a few miles. Caballo Reservoir held the state record until Clayton topped it with the 16. Game and Fish told me at our seminar on Saturday that all the spots that were shocked this fall at EB had Walleye and good numbers. They do not stock and the population seems to be naturally ccoming back in EB. An experienced Walleye angler could have a field day at Caballo.
If you can get past the ramp at EB to go to Caballo I give you credit. The thought of hooking the next state record at over 55#s is just too much for me to pass up. Wheels and Jason will confirm that Walleye fishing has its place, but with fish that make your arm sore all day long it is a tough call.
Good luck and our report for this week is going to run a little late. We lost a trailer wheel Monday night and the camera is in the boat.

Golden and I will also be there Thursday night, probably not in time to fish, but lets hookup Friday and see if we can't cover some water.
BTW, where are you guys staying? We need to surely have a cocktail and discuss times of old. I'll bring my cribbage board.

It is one day.

Conchas and Ute are in enough shape to fish with some common sense. Ute is a recreational lake and water is never let out for other purposes. Conchas has come up and is very fishable.
Golden and I will be throwin' down and I'd love to see some of you guys down there. Let me know what boat you will be in so I can get my tailpipin' gear ready. ;)
Big John will be there also.
All in all I look forward to a great tournament. Conchas has some hawg Eyes.

It's lookin' about 95% sure that I'll be there. Since it is a one day tourney, we might pull in early Friday am and try to find some fish that day. I have a White F-250 Crew Cab/Topper, will be chunkin' lures and such from a cream and maroon crestliner, walkthrough windshield, Rude 150 and 6 on the back.
Shall I bring my generator and charger for you again?
Where are you staying? If it is a motel, pass me the #.

We'll be staying at a friends cabin but will look for you on the water. You going to have your boat? I'll be in my black and white Monark. We'll definitely have to hook up and shoot the s*** over a few cocktails.
