Looking for some help in locating the new Rapala crankbait called "Taildancer". They don't seem to be available yet in retail stores. They are similair to a shad rap, but more slender and a little bit longer.

There have been a number of posts here lately discussing that lure. Scroll down through a few pages--there's even a message telling you where you can get it. (I can't remember, otherwise I'd just tell you.)

I saw picked some up at a Fleet Farm a couple weeks ago and saw them in the Owatonna Cabela's this weekend.
Ordered through Cabela's catalog. Mine shipped yesterday, but I would order fast if I were you - limited supply this year.

At $6.99 a piece, they could at least attach a decent set of treble hooks on the back of the lure. Please don't bash me for being a miser, it's just an honest opinion/suggestion.

my dad was just in salt lake and bought a taildancer at sportsmen's warehouse for $5.49 a piece. Beats cabelas by a lot.

There is a difference. I have several and have looked at them closely. They look to me like a cross between a wally diver and a Deep Jr. T-Stick. Hard to really tell, but that is what I'm seeing. The new DJ's are totally different than the old ones. Not the same mold, bill and of course colors with one or two exceptions.

One major difference is that the Tail Dancers are made out of balsa and the Wally divers are made of plastic. May give the Tail Dancers a much different action.

Bugtussle is right - the Wally Divers are a plastic molded bait, whereas the Taildancer is a balsa bait.
What just kills me is all the people crying about the high price of the Taildancers. Think about it....Shad Raps are balsa, but the new Shad Rap RS is plastic. Why?? Because it's a whole lot easier (thus cheaper) to mold something plastic and hollow to accomodate rattles than it is tring to hollow out balsa to accomodate a rattle. If the Shad Rap RS were balsa and not plastic, I can gaurantee you the price would be a couple bucks higher....GEE, right around where the Taildancers are priced. There is not (to my knowledge) another bait currently on the market which is balsa and has rattles, so there is nothing to compare the Taildancer to.
Just one guy's opinion.

They also have a rattle. This is the first balsa bait to have a rattle!

You may already be aware - Reef Runner lures - Ripsticks and such come w/ VMC reverse barb hooks. Extremely sharp right out of the package. At $4 to $5 each, these lures are a relative bargain.
Just picked up some storm thurnder cranks. Look real close to a tail dancer. Have rattles, could this be a cheaper version of a tail dancer? Look ##### close, but plastic. I'll let everyone know how they work. Plan to fish them side by side on Erie and Ill. Rv. this year. If they work on the river they will be a lot less painful to snag than a Shad rap.

Seems like these things are hard to come by. Am I just lucky? I went to my local tackle store today and there were several dozen of them....8.49 Canadian which would work out to about 5.00 USD. Picked up two, now I have to wait till May to try them out!!!
BigVic,
Dose Sprotsmans Warehouse have a web site ?
Thanks
Ed

They don't but they have locations in Utah and Idaho. Do a yellow pages search and the numbers in Utah will come up. The Idaho Falls number is 208-542-1900. Supply is in question so may have to call around the different stores to find what you want. so long.

I thought it would be worth a check. You folks(BassPro) provide an excellent service. Although, we do need a store up in the NW somewhere, bad! Those catalogs last only so long. good fish'n

The Rapala rep told me that the ThunderCrank is supposed to be the competition for the wally diver. Does'nt come close. Too fat all the way down the body. Picked up a few myself tho, gotta give them a shot, right?
