I was thinking of purchasing a left handed version of this reel for casting cranks. They're on sale at Bass Pro's with an Extereme rod. I would purchase the 7' med. rod. I have several BPS rods and they're all great but have never used any Shimano reels, only Pinnacle Deadbolts and Mitchell copperheads. This would be used for casting only. All replies appreciated.....
I have this exact reel and love it. I purchased it originally for Bass fishing. I know, I know. I have changed my ways and now use it for walleye only. I use it for bouncing. If I was buying a reel specific for bouncing I would buy one with a flipping switch. Dont get me wrong, the reel is awsome but I would preferr a flipping switch.
If you are going to use it for casting then this is a good reel.
Curado is a nice reel. I have one. Its not the last reel I bought and that should tell you something. The last reel I bought has a flipping switch and adjustable brakes on the outside - you dont have to take the cover off to adjust the brakes. $110 reels should have these features I believe. At the time I bought the reel I felt it was the best at that time - for the money - and it still works perfect, however I couldn't put out that kind of cash now and not get the improvemnets that are on the market today. Short story - its obsolete.

Hans - What did you buy to replace the Curado. I have been looking at one too. Liked the 100 but have decided that I would prefer a left hand w/ a flippin switch. Any suggestions on a comparable lightweight reel w/ these features.
Fin Addict,
It's HOSS not Hans. ( I watch Hans's posts for reference - he's forgot more than I'll ever know )
Anyway, Quantum Accurist ACS - super reel with all the goodies and don't forget to get the 6.2:1 gear ratio. Makes those buzzbaits fly $90.00.

Dutchman,
You won't be unhappy with the Curado ( left side retrieve)
I have owned that reel for 4 years and I love it. It casts well for me if I use TrileneXL line. (10-12 lb)

Not cutting edge technology but real solid performance for the cost. Not bombproof but close! I own two(including an old red one 6+ years old) and use them as my front line crankcasting reels. I'm hard on my gear and this reel has held up well. I'd rate it as a good buy. Good luck.
