I got a phone call last Friday night from some friends in Pa. They're a fishing family and winter was getting real old for them. They asked if I would be home Saturday and if I'd like a little company for a few hours. "I'm bored to death and I have to get out of this house," he told me. I told him that I was off the next day and it was fine with me. I did tell him to drive his truck and not the car because our winter weather is so unpredictable. The weather here when he called Friday night was warm and raining...
I woke up Saturday morning and immediately the sound of high wind registered. I drew the bedroom curtain aside to look out and found that I could not see out the east window of our bedroom. It was covered with SNOW! Oh, no!!! Ran to a west window to find blizzard like conditions. Oh, no!!! I grabbed the phone to warn them.... Please leave a message after the beep... I did the only thing I could do. I made coffee, looked out the window (which only upset me) and paced the kitchen floor.
They staggered in the door at twelve o'clock, snow-covered and dazed looking. Man, was I relieved and so were they. They drove the car (duh?) because she wanted to save on the gas. They had bounced off of a snow bank because they couldn't see it. Both of them kept saying that they'd never seen weather like this in their entire lives :-) Hey, the hay wagon that's sitting about seventy- five yards behind the house kept disappearing... it was that bad. But not abnormal weather for my neck of the woods. An hour after they got here, a friend called and told me to turn on the TV. Our road and all the road surrounding us were officially closed to all thru traffic.... no kidding? Well, they ended up staying the night. I had bodies all over my livingroom floor...
It was calm and clear the next morning, and with a, "See you in MAY," they were gone. I don't think they're bored any more :-)
