>I have always stayed at the root cellar. great place to stay. very spacious and clean. info on fishing Gogebic is hard to find. never very specific. It is not hard to fish Gogebic. We were successful the very first time we went and every time after. Not alot of fish but big.
good luck. I recommend going up and trying it you won't be disappointed in the size. People are pretty tight lipped up their.

Fellow anglers-I'm heading to Gogebic this weekend. Not asking for spots unless you want start me in a direction :), but I thought I read somewhere before the best live bait is wigglers. Not much of a wiggler fisherman so I need suggestions on how many to take on a 2-day trip. How about minnows? Thanks.

Trip was what we were told. Few fish, but decent size. Although we didn't get anything huge, our largest was 1 lbs 8 oz. We called it a Teeter Pig Jr. Saw 2 legit 2-lbers that don't even look normal and are true Teeter Pigs. Like other have said we should have listen a little big closer and stayed put or away from the crowds. Otherwise it was still a great trip. Highlight of the trip is we met some Iowa farmers/snowmobilers that gave us invites to come down pheasant hunting.

Big Sky......I have had good success fishing wigglers. My method was fishing a small slip float that only had about 1/4 inch of the float above the water line. Use small split shots to just barely let let float stay floating. Use a #8 or #10 glow Rat Finky. You must hook the Wiggler in the small armor plate on his back as to let him swim freely. You need the best, lively Wigglers you can find. It sounds like you need transportation to get around on the lake. You also need a good flasher to watch when the huge Perch a looking at your bait, At least I think you need one. Good luck.

Big Fish on Gogebic. Fish the flats along the river bed on the eastern shore. Chance at a big walleye too. Wigglers are good, need to be mobile with power auger and vexilar. Gogebic is a tricky lake, been fishing it since I was five and yes the people are tight lipped. Every time you go up and ask what is going on it seems the bite has just ended.
Here's the best tip for fishing this lake yet. Full moon around halloween, big fish at night. These fish can be finicky so use a bottom bouncer with a longer snell. 3-6 feet.
Big Northerns too.

Walleye6920 I stayed there a couple years ago. I wasn't crazy about the place! I hope I have the name right, sure seems like that was the name of the place. Anyways it was to far to my boat, didn't like there docks, motel room was nasty. Won't go back. Only stayed one night, had boat motor trouble and had to go eagle river for some service. Fished all day and never got a bite (but that was my fault)next time I go it will be a differant resort and maybe I'll hire a guide too!! Good luck Tim

walleye 6920 There are several good places and watering holes. My no. 1 would be the Root Cellar. Gene (the owner) will take good care of you and the food is great. That would be on the east shore and also along the west shore there are several good resorts and three campgrounds to choose from. Good luck and have fun. Save some wallys for us locals LOL

I've also heard nothing but good things about the root cellar. The Gogebic lodge looks like a nice place also.We ice fished on tues and weds.2 nice perch and some fresh snow not much to brag about but thats fishing.Travel will be good with 4 wheelers and snowmobile for at least a week if not longer. There is some water at the shorelines but once you get out the lake its fine, some slush under the snow but that might freeze after this cold spell. Stay away from the river mouths and go have fun.
