With the amount of ice reported on Lake Erie, when do you think it will be safe to put a boat on the water?

I plan on being on the water somewhere, somehow by the 29th, and maybe sooner but just moving slow! Have faith it will disappear, it always does. The rivers will flush, ice will pile up on the shores (hopefully blocking in the canadian netters instead of us), melt and there will be open water. Just watch out for onshore winds blowing your return path shut.
It's gonna be spectacular!

I can live with the 29th. No wind & clear water on the 29th! Maybe some stray net size chunks so I don't have to buy ice. Sounds like a plan.
Fishhogg - Talked to Flatts, sounded like your initial source of info about the 17 was good, surprised no one here had info. Not that I could swing it but is last yrs boat still available?

My 16 foot Sylvan goes in somewhere on March 29th, complete with power auger, spud bar and chain saw. Watch out for your license plate and transducer when you put in early. Also watch ice cutting you off from your return trip to the ramp. (Maybe I'll sell it and get a bigger ice breaker...) Budman

You can put a boat in erie at the Bay Shore Power Plant in Oregon Ohio. Have to back your boat in water, 100 yards down the ramp $ wheel drive only or drag Boat to deep water. Fish are right behind the power plant 500 yards from the ramp. We are using roll boats 16" or less. Can't miss the fisherman. Night time is best.
