I know there is a lot of "cabin fever" going around out there, so here is question that we all would like to be answered.
The new virus "annakournakova" hit us at work today, what a mess. Does this virus effect any other email system other than Microsoft Outlook??
I saw it knock the snot out of our email this morning, and was a mess until we had our administrator load the "fix" onto our virus killer stuff (whatever it is called)
I use Netscape Communicator at home do I have to be really concerned?

We run Eudora by Qualcomm exclusively for our email application. It is not bullet proof, but MUCH better than Microshaft's solution. Most of the recent viruses have been spreading themselves by reading the address book in Microshaft Outlook, and burning a copy off to everyone you know.
Nothing is as effective as using UPDATED antivirus software.

It's mostly an outlook thing. Outlook has a bit more relaxed security than some other email clients, and MS is going to catch ##### for it this time. Outlook will pretty much let an email attachment or other program do whatever it wants without questioning it -- bad idea.
We scan for viruses at 3 different levels where I work, and this virus made it past 2 of them. Luckily, one of them caught it. The virus went wild at 6:00am and by 9:00am it was everywhere. We have spent thousands on virus protection for our 600 or so computers, and this still caught us off guard. Anyone running outlook without adequate protection from inbound internet emails was a sitting duck.

Do ya think the "anti-virus" software houses have anything to do with the latest surge in virus distribution. With week sales reported for Norton and McFee last quarter, this will show a huge improvement. Kinda like sending the wolf to watch the chickens, if ya catch my drift.
I mean, they do pay the virus creators big money to send them the virus first. Hmmmm.
