The ice is off in ##### creek all the way to the main lake and the ramp is in good shape. The lake should be totally ice free in a couple days. The boat ramp at ##### creek will be in the water until the lake drops about 10 more feet, so lets go fishing.

Hey TrapperJohn,
I came accross you website, it is put together very well and up to date. Many guides don't take the time to keep their site updated. I want to fish Fort Peck in the middle of May and I was wondering if the walleyes in Fort Peck make a big upstream push up to the river like they do in Sakakawea and Oahe. Is the west end of the lake a better place to start looking for walleyes in May ?

The west end is a good place to look for walleyes in May as they tend to start to disperse from the upper reaches back into there summer areas, and there are more eyes in the upper areas that time of year. The areas around devils creek and down to timber creek can be real good early. It just depends on the water temps as to how fast they disperse and turn on to the bite. Usually in later May and early June many have made it back down to the mid-lake areas and the fishing heats up around Snow creek and down to crooked and Gilbert creeks. This should be another great walleye year like the last few. The netting studies show good populations of walleyes and there will be a predominance of large ciscoes and maybe a short supply of the small ciscoes, so larger baits may be in order. Last year we caught a ton of fish in the 6-8 lb. range and these will be hogs this year. Right now the lakers are the hot bite with most in the 10-12 lb range with quite a few in the 14-20 class. Hope you make it out and have good luck.
