What is your overall opinion of slot limits? Here in Minnesota we have slot limits on most of our top walleye lakes. Mille Lacs, Leech, Winnibigosh, Rainy, and others. I personally like slot limits and welcome any new restrictions. What are the slot limits like in your area?

I do not like statewide slot limits. But if the slot limits are imposed after scientific research is done on an individual lake, I'm all in favor. But I want to see follow-up studies done to make sure that it is working.

We don't have slot limits in Mich. but I would love to see them ,at least for the month of March, most rivers are open by then, and its very common to catch 40-50# of fish for a 5 fish limit, I don't like to see all these pre-spawn fish being harvested when its so easy to catch these fish..i would favor one fish over 25"...

Wish someone could convince the WI DNR what a "REAL" slot limit is. They are proposing a 15 to 20" keepable slot, with one over 28", for walleyes on portions of the WI River. What a joke! The slaughter below the dams in the spring, should be stopped also! Please attend the Spring Conservation Congres meetings, to be held the first part of April, in each county!!

I do not like slot limits because they force you to release fish which are bleeders and are not going to makle it. Why release a fish to die? A trophy type limit is one I could support, i.e. five walleyes with only one over 18 inches. This would protect the best spawners and still provide for table fare and a trophy.

Pardon my cynicism, but my experience with the spring meetings was a joke. The votes by county are all advisory -- meaning the DNR can do what it wants. And, we're now seeing the first wave of political payoff resulting from Tommy Thompson's reorganizeation of the DNR. Wisconsin's brand new non-elected Governor has just fired DNR Sec Meyer and is replacing him with his very own crony.

Wisconsin guys -- don't give up trying, but don't put too much faith in a system designed to look democratic but remain political. DNR Secretaries should NEVER be cabinet appointments.
