hi all well for some reason this year hasnt been well for me i have fished only once and am having major engine trouble i have a 115 merc and it is not cooling (spitting water) at all i thought it was an impeller and just got it out of the shop today i went to go put it in my dock and when i put in it turned over fine but still no stream of water does anyone know what this could be??

I've seen where all the pieces of the old impeller didn't get cleaned out properly and blocked the passage. Don't use it until you can get it fixed properly.

Use a weedwacker line or piece of wire to clear the pee-hole tube, then start it and take the rpms up for a momement. Quickly try the wire with the motor running. Sometimes there is a piece of crude/slime in the tube (hose). Run the wire up the tube until it stops, no forcing. Shut motor off immediately if you don't get flow and go back to response one.

You can take the motor cover off and check the tube. Seems unlikely, but it could have gotten pinced somehow during service.

Good Luck,

Take it back to whoever "fixed" it. There is no way that should have left the shop without it spitting water.

I've actually seen spiders and webs occlude the tattle tale. But there right, dont run it long without either clearing the tube or getting it repaired.

I agree...check the pee-hole first. I have seen this happen over and over, and it's a simple fix. A bottom bouncer wire works good for cleaning the hole too.
What has me thinking it is the pee-hole, is that you said you used the boat once already, and now it's not working. Before spending more money to have the motor checked out..do the pee-hole cleaning first.

ALSO CHECK TO SEE IF THE INTAKE IS FACING THE RIGHT DIRECTION. I HAD A BUDDY THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND I CHANGED THE DIRECTION OF THE INTAKE AND IT WAS FINE AFTER THAT.

Jim is right. They service department that replaced the impeller should have run in on the muffs before telling you to come pick it up.

You might want to check your owners manual. My 150 EFI doesnt start to pee until the temp. gets up.

I think MJM may be on to something. I've seen many people get new motors and freak because it's not spitting only to learn that the motor has to heat up to a certain temp first. Obviously you don't want to run it to long if it's not cooling. If there's nothing clogging the hole it could be you just haven't warmed it up yet. I'd like to think the mechanic tested it before he sent you home!! Good luck!
