Has anyone else checked out this special issue of In-Fisherman???
Wow, talk about impressive and UGLY.... For those of you who didn't see the article, the top ten Toughest freshwater fish are, Beluga Sturgeon (may approach 25 ft, and 3,000 lbs.), Piraiba ( 256 lbs.9 oz.record), white sturgeon (1,200 one weighed in Oregon in 1951), pirarucu(may exceed 12 ft. 400 lbs), mahseer(some varieties reportedly reach 200 lbs.), Nile perch(213 lb.record),
New Guinea bass(40 to 50lb. max. but take a 30lb. smallie multiply by 3, forget the energy wasting jumps and you've got a New Guinea bass), Goliath tigerfish(110 lb. record but what teeth, yikes),Taimen(About 100 lbs. but the world's largest salmonide so you can just imagine...)#10 was a tie between the Wels,(a 200lber was recently verified) and the alligator gar (most are under 100 lbs but 200 lbers were common in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas). After reading the article, I feel a little whimpy fishing for smallies and eyes :-) But anyone who goes after these critters better not FALL IN THE WATER!!!!!!!!!

I read the article and loved it. Chances are that I will never fish for any of them, but we can dream. I really liked the idea of the bass on "steroids." (Note to self: save for exotic freshwater fishing trips!) And I thought king salmon were tough.

Saw that article, and was surprised to see all the different fish I've never even heard of. Catching any of those fish would be fun, but it appears you would need a ton of cash just to go after one of them.

Can't remeber if the Gar was in that top 10 or not, but I remeber they had mentioned it in that magazine. There are some alligator gar in the canals in florida that have to push a couple hundred pounds. I saw some by the launch pads by Nasa once but couldn't get them to take the bait.

Piggy's with teeth that demolish most tackle, weeee-haaaa! Some interesting fish for sure.

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder, don't cha-know.

Just be careful about trying to use some of my cousins down there for Piggy bait! Especially the bright colored ones, you might not ever go frog snatching again! LOL Other than that, have a good time BE!
