Has anyone tried the new Abu Garcia AB? B.P.S. is having a 2 for 1 sale and I thought about picking up a couple. The anti-backlash is not really a issue, I just wonder if it works? Maybe I can switch my wife over to baitcasters. Anyway, 40 bucks apiece, (after shipping) is not a bad price for a ambassador. Whud da ya think?

I just picked one up 6500 for muskies. never tried it but I have no trouble with regular baitcasters. I I'am selling the other one that I get to my uncle, not bad after its all said and done I will have paid about 64 bucks half of total cost. If you are getting one and want the second free, I suggest doing it soon because it takes at least six to eight weeks for delivery.

I've talked with a few people who have them and they're OK. You sacrifice some distance on casts with the AB engaged. But you don't have to use it. Other than that they're a typical Abu.

THe AB's are just the good old C3 models with the AB feature added. I bought 2 of them to use on planar board set ups and bottom bouncers. You can disengage the AB feature and you have a C3 (with a little less "thumb room" on the top of the spool.
With the 2 for 1 promotion, its a hard deal to beat (other than the store I bought them from was clearing them out!! :) )

If all you need is the drag and you plan to troll w/ them, the 2 for one is a bargain. Nice reel but not for casting. If you plan to cast with them, plan on losing 20% of your casting distance. They work but you really sacrifice on casting performance to get the antibacklash feature. From what I can see, the antibacklash was a nice theory but you give up too much to get it. As a result, they are being forced to give them away as a last ditch effort to resurrect a product that will probably die a quick death.
