Ding, ding, ding! In the blue corner victorious in their last
battle we have the Republicans, and in the red corner we we have the Democrats. We are here at Walleye Central to battle it out for masters of the discussion board. The republicans out number the democrats from what we have gathered in our latest poll. The
republicans infamous for their hard nosed tactics and bashing on the message boards are doing battle against the liberal, anti hunting, anti fishing, tree hugging democrats.
Let's get ready to Rrruuuummmble!
Round One: We have a post! the democrat posts something on the
message board. 1, 2, 3, 4 straight punches from the republicans.
The democrat is down and out for the count.
Come on guys. This politics crap has no place on the message
board. Especially the bashing. Republicans are NOT the only
sportsmen in the U.S. This is why I personally have no Political
Preference. I vote for the person that I feel will best do the job for our country. My candidate lost to GW in the primaries, Yes, McCain was a Republican and I would have voted for him against Al Gore. Granted, this last election we had bottom of the barrel pickings for candidates.
Here's what I want everyone to do. Let's stop the bashing for the rest of 2001. Come January of 2002, if the country isn't running as strong as it was in 1999 then we can have a free for all. In the mean time, keep an open mind and watch what happens, environmentally and economically. I realize that it will be hard for some people who are narrow minded and politically blinded. But try any way.
Let's give both sides time to really screw up or fix what ever is
wrong with our broken and shattered morals of a country.
I would also like to apologize to Scott for posting this as it
really isn't fishing related.
I would also like to add that my profile is posted. Please don't
post any bashing replies to this post. Email them to me personally.

Let's leave our political lines at the public access, and pick up our fishing lines, here we all belong to the same party "SPORTSMAN"

I am of the opinion that we do not have to respond to anything, on any board unless we think we can add to the discusion. Sometimes the addition is fact, sometimes humor.
That said, we as sportman must be aware of politics, even though most of us find the whole process distastfull. If we do not make our voices heard, we will lost in the din of those who would take away our rights and deny us the use of resources we take for granted. Yeh, sometimes we might have to put up with windbags and false information. If so, either ignore or correct and move on. Remember, no one has to respond. Lack of response usually will encourage the unwelcomed to move on. I understand your frustration, but we can't be blind to realities.

I don't think a good way to start a "Lets not talk about politics" thread is a post a page long, then ask everyone not to reply publicly.
I agree, we should concentrate on fishing/outdoor activities. But a good part of concentration on fishing/outdoor activities has to be politically related. Sorry, that's the facts. If we stick our heads in the sand and pretend it isn't so, we might wake up in a whole new world. I won't argue that Walleye Central isn't "Politics central" but I also didn't start this thread.
If I wasn't concerned, I wouldn't reply. I must be concerned.

Sorry Kevin but I don't agree. I find mtself to be neither a Republican or Democrat. But if I read some of the garbage that has come out of the mouths of the bitter liberals who like to stir trouble on these boards, I'm ##### well going to respond, if I choose. It is a shame that we can't all just get along, I agree. But we all just can't agree to disagree either. The solution: I don't have one. Wish I did. Could probably hit the speaking tour and retire if there was a solution.

Politics and fishing are joined at the hip. I think that its a good thing that items of interest be discussed in a board such as WC. We learned a long time ago here in NW Ontario that you cannot leave your fishing interests to politicians or the OMNR. You have to get involved and to get involved you have to know about it. Fishing clubs are a good start or any group that has an active interest in your area. There are many groups out there that would have no more hunters, guns, fisherman ect. Get involved and keep your sport alive. You will also make some good friends who share your same interests. I for one love reading the posts that are politically aligned here. Keep them coming.

I am a Democrat. I own a two-stroke outboard. I am a fisherman. I am a gun owner. I have hunted, but don't anymore, haven't got the time between teaching and coaching my runners. I never lost a second's sleep over Al Gore, and although I thought Bill Clinton did a very good job as President, if he moved next door to me I'd give my house to my worst enemy. I have a pretty daughter.
The last time I hugged a tree was in Viet Nam when someone was shooting at me. I'd bet we've all hugged a ##### of a lot worse. I think trees are beautiful, but you'll have to excuse me if I don't hug them and just sit under one and drink a cold brew.
Don't make the mistake of disliking people because of their political beliefs. I have a friend who teaches and coaches at the same school I do. We got very angry with each other on a Friday at lunch time because our political beliefs were vastly different. He's a conservative Republican. But he's also a great guy, a fine teacher, and a superb role model for the young men on our baseball team. That is what really counts.
Next election, we'll argue some more and cancel each other's votes out. But we'll still be friends.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-15-01 AT 09:56PM (CST)[p]The Democratic slur that I posted was done so sarcasticly. I voted for Al Gore, just for the simple fact that I didn't really like GW or the Bush name as a whole. It's just the bashing that gets tire some. Unfortunately that's all some people can do from the safety of a computer keyboard.
I visit walleye central and try to go down each post to pick up tips or offer some advice. Unfortunately when some of the posts are made certain individuals make sure to include political proporganda in with their reply. This in a whole gets tiresome.
I didn't want to tick anyone off.
You know, I didn't receive one private email on this topic. Goes to show that some people would rather polute a message board than talk one to one. I think it's because they can't express their beliefs on others.
Just waiting for soft water!

Just curious. Are there any websites that focus on politics/fishing or politics/hunting?

Politics and fishing are indeed joined at the hip. The Clean Water Act was passed by Congress and signed by a Republican. Theodore Roosevelt set aside more land for posterity than any others, including many streams. He also was a Republican. We are indebted to a Democrat, Clinton, for preventing the Clean Water Act from being recalled. Sportsmen asked politicans to pass laws in the 30s to tax ourselves on equipment and tackle. The money is used for stocking efforts. Our organizations lobby for increased stocking, for clean water, for fish barriers on dams,to remove dams, and a myriad of other issues. Issues like conservation reserve programs impact hunters and fishermen. If we don't take marginal land out of production, the silt ends up in the rivers. The Gulf at New Orleans is dead because of fertilizer runoff from the Midwest that screws up fishing in the Illinois River, the Mississippi, the Missouri and others. Just ask anyone who fishes them regularly. The American Sportfishing Association is involved in lobbying on a national scale.
The days sportsmen can be uninvolved and uninformed are long gone. So, please, anyone who has an issue they think I should know about, please post it. Be part of the solution.

Weyes 1 , If the country isn't running good by 2002 then some of you will understand the mess that CLINTLER got us into.

02-16-2001, 07:40 PM
Well,
Other than the scandal against Clintler, the country was going the strongest it has ever been. Of course you're going to say that the republicans had everything to do with it. Open your eyes. When did the country start going into recession? When GW got the GOP nomination and Gore got the Democratic nomination. Like I said, Bottom of the barrel candidates, poor consumer confidence, and inflated gas and oil prices.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that.

Kevin, for a guy who says get rid of the political posts and wants us all to get along, you just opened up a large can of worms. Blaming the candidates of the last election for the economic problems of today is hilarious. that's as funny as Al Gore and Bill Clinton taking credit for developing and/or implementing the internet and the new technology.

Weyes,
In this post you have been both a devils advocate and a hypocrite. You say leave politics behind, then you try to stir the coals by bashing GWB & and stating how Republicans are bashing Democrats posts on WC. You may be registered as an independent on your voters card but your posts indicate otherwise. I think the "W" in Weyes stands for Washington and the EYES stands for spy.
You my man seem to be ignorant of your own ignorances, as well as your own prejudices. Go "SPY" somewhere else.

"certain individuals make sure to include political propaganda in with their reply". If that ain't the pot calling the kettle black! You have lost all political credibility with this thread. I have never seen a bigger hypocrit!
yeah-but can this be true
