Being a sucker for new gadgets..we ordered a couple of these new "center drag" reels last night. I should have asked before, but has anyone tried them? Abu-Garcia is not my favorite brand, but what the heck..buy 1/get 1 free. I talked my buddy into buying 1..I'll try the free 1! Good Fishing, Sluggo

I have both the Suveran and the ABU models of the center drag. They are terrific. Some guys argue they're too heavy, but I can't buy that argument. They're not intended to be ultra lites.

They were in the latest "sale" flyer from Bass Pro. If you didn't get the flyer..call 1-800-BASSPRO and ask for the deal. Good Fishing, Sluggo

I work in the fishing department at gander mountain, we got the low end center drag, and had lots of problems. The reels seemed to work fine until you really tighten up the drag. If you click it one notch to far the reel is junk, we broke several of them while just playing around.

You can go to the Abu Garcia site and download the coupon for the free one. According to them it takes 6 to 8 weeks to get the second reel. You also have to send them a check for $9.95 for the free one. Handling charge. I purchased the cd 6 from Cabela's. $99.95 Haven't really used it yet but I like it. Didn't notice any problems with the drag. The reels are a little heavier than others, but not by much. It seems very solid. The 2 for one was too much to pass up. For $110.00 I get 2, 6 bearing reels. I still have and use my Garcia-Mitchell 300 from 30 years ago along with an ABU Ambbasodor 5000 just as old. I figure these will stand the test of time too.

The Abu site is www.abugarcia.com One thing I did notice is the coupon wouldn't come up under Netscape. I had to use Explorer.
I bought one of these reels last year at Cabelas, used it all year, includung a couple of local tourneys, and absolutly love it! Might get another one this year.

I have used these reels for about a year now. In my opinion they all should be center drag. I can change drag very fast and as a guide I change back and forth to different reels for different tactics. Before these reels I would occationally put fireline on a reel and not loosen the drag that little extra and it caused problems. Now I just reach down and click. I use a good quantity of reels and ,(we have picked the least expensive models for the economy), none have failed yet. When you first start using it you will notice a bulky feel and a little more weight. This is probably not the reel for somebody that likes to fight fish with an ultra light feel cause just like all of ABU's
reels this is one serious reel for good sized fish. Lawrence

Have used both a CD4 and CD6 4000 size for a year and a half. The drags are awesome, smooth and easy to adjust with a fish on. Seems like they've gotten smoother as I've used them, and I've fished them enough the texture on the handle knob is worn smooth. Haven't broken a fish off on them yet (still lose fish when the hook comes out and break off on snags though :D
This is an offer the Abu Garcia are doing on all of the CD4's and CD6's. Most stores that sell these reels should have the coupons for the mail in free one. The drag system is great. You can adjust the drag with out letting go of the reel or the pole.Abu Garcia also have the same deal going on the Anti backlash round reels.

I've used center drag reels for 1 1/2 yrs. on the tournament trail and have found them to have the best drag system of any reel I've ever used. I think they are great and would highly recommend them.

I purchased a CD-4 over the winter and have been using it regularly since "ice out" here in Virgina. I have only one complaint about them and it is a minor one. The reels use a ring for the anti-reverse, which takes some getting used to, it does not have a positive visual indicator as to whether the anti-reverse is on or off like other reels but I have gotten used to it after using the reel for a while. Like I said, a minor nit pick.
May all your fish be large and your complaints be small,

Sorry to be a promoter, but why wait when there's fishing to be done?
