I was reading through my walleye-insider magazine when i came across these jet divers. I was wondering if anyone has tried them yet? And do they actually get as deep as they say they do?
Thanks,
Erik

River Rat,
Jet Divers are a great tool. Lots of guys run them on Erie off of big boards. I've also ran them straight off the back as long lines. Great way to get spoons deep. Some guys will run worm harness' off them as well as non diving stickbaits, They come in different sizes 10,20,30,40 and I think they even have a 50? The 40's really pull alot. Many Captains add inline sinkers (1, 2, 3 oz.) ahead of a 20 or 30 jet rather than going to the 40. Other thing the weight does is make them more speed dependent like a dipsey to get a "vertical swim" depending on speed. ie they will rise when going faster on an outside turn and fall in the water column when going slower on an inside turn. They are discussed in Mark Romanack's "Precision Trolling" and are pretty easy to run. If you don't have Precision Trolling - GET IT.
Good Luck,
Steve

We used the jet diver 20s on Western Basin of Erie last year and were very happy with their performance. Pulled spoons (stingers & fintails), spinner rigs, & lures (small billed cranks & sticks). We use them with power pro 30 lb test/8lb dia and got depth results very close to those published in "precision trolling". They do not have nearly as much resistance as the dipseys so you can put more of them out on the big boards. They do impart a different action than the dipseys and sometimes it seems like the fish want the surging of a disey (found this to be true at Huron).

The Jet Diver is made by Luhr-Jensen. There address is P.O. box 297, Hood River, Oregon 97031. The number 10,20,30,40 is how many feet they will dive with 100 feet of line let out. Get ahold of Luhr-Jensen and they will send you a tech-sheet.

They come in a variety of colors. What color do you recommend for clear water - the clear one?

Ron,
I've used most all the colors ranging from the clear to the metallic chrome. Caught fish on all of them. Have not really concentrated on which ones caught more fish...another detail to keep track of this year...
Good Luck

By "big boards" the guys mean full size planer boards that you pull with a tow line. Usually envolving a mast and reels for the tow line.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-15-01 AT 06:51PM (CST)[p]As already said, jets are a favorite diver in Western Erie. I use them off the big boards and stright lines. Mostly with spoons, harnesses and shallow diving baits. Luhr-Jensen have a web site where you can get fact sheets on their products. Nice folks. The web site is http://www.luhr-jensen.com/

They work great in rivers. We use them to backtroll (slipping, not what you midwest guys call backtrolling) eggs or Kwikfish for salmon. I've also used one in a current with a worm harness and caught a few keeper eyes.
